As alot of you will know there was alot of controversy and rumours about a possible second series of Max and Paddy's Road To Nowhere. Then it turned out that Kay was to be producing a new show along the lines of That Peter Kay Thing, called "I'm Peter Kay" to be shown early 2006. No sign of it.
A few days ago a friend of mine heard that a second series of Max and Paddy is being made. I found it hard to believe, so I checked the WWW and only found something saying "Channel Four would like to commision a second series of Max and Paddy but Kay is working on some other projects first".
No "I'm Peter Kay"? No "Max and Paddy Series Two"?
Does anybody have any honest details about what Peter is up to?
He was on Radio1 last month. He said the brand new series is coming but he is still recovering from the "Bungalow" tour, so it will be a while. A second series of M&P was written (plus a Xmas special set in Ireland) but they decided not to go ahead with them - presumably because they realised the first series was crap. A Phoenix Night's movie was also written but he didn't want to do it because it's too much hassle. Instead he does plan to turn it into a 3rd series eventually - "when work dries up". He's also writing material for another tour planned for 2008.
Also he's teaming up with Matt Lucas for a cover of "I would walk 500 Miles" by 'The Proclaimers' for Comic Relief.

At this moment in time he is working on at least 2 projects. The first being the Comic Relief song/video, the second i sthat he is reherasing/getting ready to play a "major" part of Mel Brook's The Producers on stage in Manchester. I also know he si writing scripts for a currently untitled sereies (although I feel is could be a second series of The Peter Kay Thing!!!!!).
BTW I was in the same year as his wife at the same school. Peter also went to the same sixth form college as I did, but started the year I left (a golden opportunity missed I think!!!)
I reckon he's having trouble coming up with new stand up material. The nostalgia-based stuff has well and truly run its course.
I think the same too, don't get me wrong he is a very funny man, but when was the last time he came up with truly new material? His stand-up was pratically the same, nostalga was spread across the Blackpool, Bolton and Manchester DVD's, infact the Manchester DVD had the exact same gags as the Bolton one, there was nothing new in it, except for an Extra or two.
And what's out this year? Another rerelease of Phoenix Nights and Max & Paddy, who's going to buy that? Anyone who is a fan of Kay would have had these a long time by now.
Phoenix Nights had Dave Spikey and Neil Fitzmaurice as co-writers and was genius, Max & Paddy was nothing but banking on catchphrases. (As well pointed out in the first episode of the second series of
Extras
)

Interestingly the font of all knowledge that is Victoria Newton in
The Sun
said in September PK was doing "1000 miles" with Roy Walker and Roy Walker, and it would be released by October.
Only several months out, and linking Peter Kay with the wrong comedians Vicky-- but never mind

No doubt when it is released next year she'll be giving it the "As I exclusively revealed last year..."
I agree Peter needs new material fast. His TV appearances these day's are cringe worthy.
"Give me an E, give me an N, give me tertainment" wasn't even that funny when he first did it 10 year ago. When he wheeled it out for the 1,000,000 time last month on 'The Paul O'Grady' I felt embarrassed for him.
He can't be bothered with new material - his fame and repetoir has gone to his head. Similar with Ricky Gervais although he does an occasional podcast and writes material (Extras/The Office) over in America.
I own all three of Peter's standup shows. Blackpool Tower and Bolton Albert Halls shows are completely different shows, except for maybe "Garlic Bread" - Blackpool deals with holidays and leisure time, Bolton deals with generally funny observations, family life and of course Bullseye. Manchester Arena is from the same tour as Bolton, so includes the same jokes. The point of that DVD I suppose was to celebrate the last night of the tour and all the emotions and special nuances that came with it... plus as it's shorter than the 2-hour Bolton show it's more of a "lite" version - pop it in for an hour and laugh.
The "couple of Extras" are in fact a very good tour documentary. Most comedians have the same schtick on a tour - and it is his first and only major tour to date after all - and I'm sure Peter has lots more comedy up his sleeve. He's proved with three very funny TV series how good he is at character comedy. And he's not been sitting on his arse this last year, he's written an autobiography, which no doubt took a bit of doing.
yeah but you gotta admit its disappointing buying a dvd which is nearly the same as the one you've already got
Read my post again. 1) It's from the SAME TOUR so it's bound to have similar material. 2) It's a shorter version so it's an alternative to people who don't want / can't sit through an entire 2 hours of comedy in one go. 3) It redeems itself in my eyes by having an interesting, and funny in its own right behind-the-scenes documentary.
So yes while some people may find it disappointing, I don't. And I don't have to "admit" anything.
And stop posting the same comments over and over again. It's boring.
