Tonight's is the one that people on here will no doubt like, and at the same time dislike the most. It's about the business side of things. So expect lots of appearances by TV Forum's 2nd biggest hate figure and lots of ranting come 11.45pm tonight!

On the trailer there's a glimpse of the black and white LWT spinning disc ident! I hope they include the regions. The regions that are left are the ones i have to jump over the sea for!

Interesting program so far. An early STV ident shown, and some classic ads too.

Also some info about the prices of advertising on ITV. £100,000 a spot inbetween Corrie and up to £300,000 on a footie match! Insanity!

Does anyone really take any notice of adverts?! I certainly don't....

This has been quite interesting so far, I've learnt a bit I didn't know, such as the Government report in 1960 and why they gave LWT the licence.

Plus £100,000 for 30 seconds on Corrie, but £300,000 during an England game, interesting stuff.

Well they've just summed up what's wrong with ITV today. The network used to be enriched by programmes and people coming from throughout the regions. Nowadays that competition does not exist.

Interesting knowledge about TVS I didn't know; Greg Dyke being controller of programming for one!

Anyone catch the early Blind Date and Beadles About titles go past. Smile

Also interesting to find out how and why the 1979 ITV Strike began, I've read before Unions were big in ITV, never knew they were that powerful.

It said that the whole of ITV was shut down when the strike happened. Is that actually true? I thought Channel TV kept going throughout the strike.

ITV has been awful for about 8 years now, unless they go back to their old style shows it may as well shut down.

ITV has been poor since 1993 IMHO, when the then new franchises came in, that was the beginning or a new generation of crapness on ITV, it was the year a lot of shows ended too which had been on for many years previously.

Two quick thoughts:

1. Ouch - Carlton just got a (deserved) kicking. You wonder if that would have been broadcast before the merger.

2. It's not a single ITV - can someone at Cowcaddens please point out they still exist? SMG, Channel and UTV are still separate from ITV PLC.

I was thinking that myself. Infact with the exception of STV, the independent regions weren't even mentioned at all. As I said above, when the strike happened, CTV kept running.

I have to say the last five or ten minutes of the programme was quite brutal really, but Paul Fox was right, what memorable programmes have Carlton made? And Greg Dyke admitting that losing Thames was a mistake. And the bids for TVS and TSW too raised points that I wouldn't have thought about.

Overall a very interesting programme tonight, also very honest about the Licences too.
