Tonight's programme was a joke. I don't care what percantage or how much Charles Allen is putting back into programmes - the channel is a hot bed of ****e with very little going for it.

I found the commentaries of Greg Dyke and Michael Grade to be very self congratulating. They seemed to too often forget the mistakes that ITV have made. They overplayed their innocence over Maggie's reformation of the whole franchise thing too. Intelligent commentary coming from Dyke when he said Thames should never have lost.

But seemed like ITV were blaming bad fortunes on those franchise rounds. **** - they were the master of their own destiny.

Agreed with all the stuff about the unions though.

Yes but I was in it at the end so it's not all bad Very Happy

I did notice that - so it was a saving grace for the programme.

In this broadcasting climate, it's doubtful that another one would go ahead and even if it did, the biggest selling point for the contracts in 1991 was how regional we could be (minus the money!)

And do you know why?

Was just watching this weeks episode again, and noticed a mistake. When Melvyn was talking about Border, he said it was the smallest ITV region. That's not right! Get your facts right Melvyn!

Exactly. Per chance he didn't mention it because it's an independent station? I really wonder whether he was forced to say that. Melvyn is usually very good at getting his facts right.

Why would he do that? Especially as he mentioned Scottish. A lot of this ITV PLC against the independants seems to be just whipped up on here, it probably isn't like that at all.

I expect it is because 'Border is the smallest region' is easier to say in a mainstream documentary than 'Border is the smallest region on the mainland, Channel is actually smaller'

But it's a lie... Rolling Eyes How hard is it to say " one of the smallest regions"...?

Or he could just avoid the line altogether. He could just say "This is Border" Laughing

No. SMG stands for Scottish Media Group, which is Scottish TV and Grampian.

UTV and Channel are independent.

For the same reason he said ALL the regions were now a SINGLE ITV company.
