Then let the people who want it pay for it, if most of the people in this country like it, and are willing to let their money go to this place, then the BBC won't have a worry, because they will carry on forking out for it as a subscription service won't they? You know if its *that good*

Then the "other" people, you know, who have no right to live, because they don't think its right to pay for the BBC, can have no access to it, and therefore don't have to pay out for it.

Now, the people who support the License Fee, answer this, if the BBC is worth the money, then everyone would subscribe wouldn't they, so they would have nothing to worry about? So then what's your objection to people who don't want it, that they don't have to pay for it?

Reasonable question:
Give me one good reason, why people who don't want the BBC, should have to pay for it.

Honest debate?

Because it ensures there is appropriate broadcasting during a nuclear attack and the like.

Because firstly it wouldn't get enough money to run properly, and secondly, it wouldn't be PSB. Can't be bothered to explain any more than that, as I can tell immediately that you're one of THOSE people.

Because people who aren't that keen on the BBC don't know what's good for themselves, so they need to have it forced on them, obviously.

How many British shows that AREN'T made by the BBC do you watch on Sky then 'skyfan'. Or are you happy to watch only American programmes? £142.50 a year to stop our kids speaking with a yank accent? Bargain.

If the BBC was a subscription service then there'd be no point having it. Public Service broadcasting should be available to everyone, if it was a subscription service (which isn't really that feasible technically) then a large section of the population wouldn't have access to it

Another reasonable question:
Why should people who don't use schools, libraries, hospitals etc pay for them?

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, without the BBC in this country funded and run like it is, television as a whole would deteriate. It helps maintain a bench mark for broadcasting.

That's particularly true with children's programming, apart from the handful of kids shows on Five there isn't any British children's programming. The BBC provides safe, British commercial-free children's programmes - Cbeebies is fantastic

Oh well, you would really compare the BBC to a service like hospitals and schools? Really? I would rather the BBC money went on schools and hospitals. That's is actualy worth the money.

It's perfectly reasonable to compare it to the services mentioned. The TV license fee is a tax in the same way taxes pay for Schools etc.

Yes, but I can choose whether I want to pay for that. With the BBC, I cannot.

Let parents pay for CBeebies then. Like I say, people who want it, let them pay for it.
