Oooh which version of the countdown is this? I like. Can anyone link me to it (*so* many rubbish mocks on YouTube).

Shame its been cut off when the counter hits zero - but that's why its not a terribly good idea not to line up the music with the numbers...

Do any of the PBS affiliates in the USA still broadcast BBC World News? I know KCET in Los Angeles did before they left PBS and KOCE took over.

This video is picked up from KMRA in Denver.

One thing I don't understand is how do the adverts not cut off some of the headlines from BBC World News? The titles are only 12 seconds but the adverts in place of the titles are a lot longer.

What do you mean? There's nothing in place of the titles. The countdown is just early and they put all that rubbish between the end of the countdown and the start of the TOTH.

Ah I see. I thought the countdown was broadcast at the correct time. It makes sense now!

It's the World News version of the 2008 theme, which ended with the ident tacked onto the end rather than when the numbers hit zero (apparently screwing up PBS's version). Were you after the audio or uncut-off video, Gavin?

It was always syndicated by American Public Television and not on PBS Network. Saying it was on PBS is kind of false.

It actually used to be syndicated by WLIW-TV in Long Island, NY which is owned by WNET in NYC. They had quite a good relationship for a while, with WNET housing the BBC's New York bureau:

Apparently the BBC and WNET had a falling out, and they stopped syndicating BBC World News to stations across the US, as well as shutting down the New York studio.

KCET now syndicates BBC World News, with WNET airing it (although they insist on cropping the letterboxed 14:9 feed to 16:9, cutting the ticker off).

It's also worth a slight mention that KCET is no longer affiliated to PBS..

Thanks seamus did American Public Television handle it for WLIW-TV?

I'm not sure. Individual stations also have the ability to distribute programming, so it may have been distributed through WNET/WLIW or APT. I don't recall seeing APT distribution stings attached to the news bulletins, so I'd assume the former was the case.
