Richard Kingsbury came off as a really top bloke on Twitter when I tweeted him good luck few weeks ago and he wanted suggestions for shows. The ones I suggested are ones they're going with. Maybe because its the big PBS shows I could think of Laughing

Looking forward to Ken Burns' Prohibition I love his documentaries.

We have BBC, and Ch4 and Ch5 which all have public service remits I dare say also continual to broadcast higher quality programming. Doest USA PBS broadcast many BBC shows?

Yep they do, but a lot of British TV are shown by the stations not by PBS.

PBS stands for Public Broadcasting Service. Doesn't that make them the American BBC? Surely public broadcasting means they should stay in their own country? A UK version of PBS is pointless.

I think you've missed the point. It's not launching in the UK as a public service broadcaster, it's a pay TV channel - importing programmes to a UK audience for money.

As the article says it's a source of untapped quality content which we otherwise wouldn't have access to. It'll be nice to have another intelligent viewing option

BBC America isn't a public service broadcast, it's owned and operated by BBC Worldwide, a commercial subsidiary.

PBS UK won't be either. I have no idea what you're trying to say.

I think that was the point, BBC America is a non public service version of the BBC and PBS UK will be a non public service version of PBS.

If PBS's shows were good enough, wouldn't they have already been shown by other broadcasters? Apparently most of their back catalogue has never aired here.

It depends if they've ever tried to sell them to the other broadcasters of course, although I'm not sure which channels would want them

I can't think of any PBS programmes I've seen here
