Paul Sinha's TV Showdown

Sort of a TV version of Question of Sport-ish

It's a shame Bob Monkhouse is no longer with us, he would have been great on this show.

I believe Peter Kay is a bit of a telly anorak (although probably unbookable). I seem to recall him having a geeky conversation as a guest on Chris Moyles' show about old telly a while ago. In fact Moyles would be a good shout for the show.

Fay just ruins it - a bizarre casting, and a bit of a surprise let down actually as I usually find her good value when she guests on shows. She just sucks the energy out of the show with her lack of enthusiasm.

I agree. I don't think Sinha is a good presenter of it either though.

Totally agree with everything being said. Faye is the biggest problem here, she just doesn’t seem to know anything! Tonight, not even knowing the “Alexander Armstrong & Richard Osmon fronted quiz show”... it’s only been running for 12 years!

Rob is good value & I think it’s been proven that any of the comedians would’ve made better opposing team captains. Jason had good knowledge tonight.

My favourite round is the last one for the pure number of questions. Everything else seems a bit slow & some of the clips are just irrelevant.

I think he just needs more to bounce off, and that's part of the reason Fay needs replacing.

Agree with a lot of what's been said. Fay was a poor casting although, from the interview with Paul that I posted above, it sounded like a very quick turnaround so they maybe didn't have time to do any trial runs to test chemistry etc. Think Chizzy has stood out for me as the most knowledgeable guest, maybe her or someone like Ian Sterling to bounce of Rob and Paul would be better. Paul definitely settled into the role over the episodes, he seems more relaxed than the first one we saw.

He also said in that interview that this was done over two days. I always feel you can tell when that's been the case with new productions as they don't have the time to step back and change anything that hasn't quite worked.

Change of team captain, a few more questions, some onscreen question graphics and actually useful clips being shown (also seems they didn't have the time to find great clips to ask questions about) would sort this format out.

Two days to film a six part panel show is impressive. That's more on par with a daily gameshow.

It's a fairly basic panel show though, no audience to worry about and quite normal for such shows to have two editions filmed back to back, so filming over 2 days instead of 3 not a huge stretch really.

In many ways it's actually a simpler show to do than the likes of The Chase and Pointless.

I don't think it needs to be somebody who is especially knowledgeable, just somebody who isn't going to embarrass themselves every week would do.

If you are going to have somebody who is really not very good (or plays as such for laughs) you need a host who is a bit less nice, and it needs to become a running gag, like the crap Roisin Conaty gets from Jimmy Carr on Catsdown.

Hate to say it but Keith Lemon would be a much better fit. I think the problem here is it doesn't quite know if it wanted to be a serious TV quiz or a comedy panel show, and whilst Paul Sinha is perfectly capable of hosting the former, and for that matter a perfectly capable comedian too, he just can't carry the show in the way Jimmy Carr, Rob Brydon or Keith Lemon could when it hits a lull in proceedings.
