There are lots of ways the show could be freshened up, why doesn't Paul get involved in the VTs, instead of sending the 'Essex twins' to a supermarket to pay for some people's shopping, why doesn't Paul go and therefore have some of his famous banter with the general public in the meantime

Plus if he was back on ITV, he could interview ITV stars again. There's about 100 different actors in Corrie and Emmerdale which boosts the guestlist already, Barbara Windsor would only have to be on every third week then Laughing

I see Paul in the supermarket many times and he doesn't want to know. Wink I know what you mean though.

No. C4 doesn't need to go down the cheesy ITV route...although becoming evident in the last few series' of Paul's show.

It was never a Channel 4 type programme in the first place, it stood out in their otherwise fairly intelligent daytime offering.

The Paul O'Grady Show will return on Monday 21st September.

I wonder if it will have a new look? Since Paul has threatened to quit I am sure there won't be a big change to set, style etc.

I have heard from the Guardian that this week he will have to decide what he wants to do, stay with C4 or go. I am sure he could do the show for less money. Aren't chatshows meant to be cheap fillers, thats why the US channels are crammed with them (NBC has four now each weeknight from 10.00pm-2.15am)

I hope he stays, as the BBC and ITV 5pm shows are dreadful.

Cutting the budget of a cheap filler by half though isn't going to work.

I do think the best solution for both C4 and Paul would be to strike a deal which sees his daytime chat show cut back, so with less episodes (say 8-10 weeks a series instead of 12-13) at a slightly reduced price, and then line up something in primetime for him too, whether another version of his chatshow or some kind of travelogue - or indeed another format altogether.

His argument is that he's getting less per programme and he can't keep up the quality, reducing the number of episodes of his daytime show doesn't solve that problem. If he gets the same per show then C4 still have to pay for the 4 or 5 weeks he's not on air. If they pay him less then C4 have won and he'd might as well just do the normal run.

An evening show is all very well, but what? If they can't afford a daytime chat show they won't want to pay the extra for the same show in the evening. Anything else is unproven and therefore isn't a guaranteed money spinner

It can bring down the slot average though if the shows that replace those weeks are cheaper to produce, which they are, and in theory boost the amount of money available for the episodes that remain, even if still lower than the previous budget.
