The Coach Trip has been recommissioned to fill the 5pm slot, along with Come Dine with Me and I imagine Wogan will get another run out.

When Paul finishes this current series in December will he be back in March 2009? Wonder if he will continue next year with the March/June and Sept/Dec series.

Just wondering what will fill the January-March 5pm slot before Paul returns.

Wogan's Perfect Recall was not a very good replacement for Richard and Judy.

Shame Richard Hammond didn't get the chance to have his show on. I think he would have made a better replacement that Wogan, after all he did do the Richard Hammond 5 O'Clock Show in January 2006 for ITV1.

Alan Titchmarsh's show would've been ideal for when POG is not appearing on that slot. After This Morning and Loose Women, a third celebrity/current-affairs 'live' talkshow is a bit much on ITV during the day, I feel.

It would be good to have a show a bit more C4 - I think they need something positioned somewhere between Paul O'Grady and Richard and Judy. As someone else said, Richard Hammond is probably perfect - but highly unlikely.

With things as they are at C4 though I expect they'll look to fill the slot on the cheap and probably air something new at 5pm and then reruns of something like Come Dine with Me or A Place in the Sun at 5.30pm.

I quite enjoyed Wogan's quiz. And new Come Dine with Me is refreshing as opposed to the endless repeat cycle on More4. The last run of CDWM during the slot was copyrighted with a date that didn't resemble 2008 ( was difficult to see ). They've maybe been held back a few weeks. I remember the last time new editions were in a slot C4 said they were from a previous series but hadn't managed to show them.

Personally I find the Paul O'Grady show a switch off and agree that it's not very Channel 4... ( wotever that means these days lol )

I think Channel4 will want to keep Paul for as long as they can.

No matter what you think of the show he still gets good audience ratings for the 5pm slot and has a huge fanbase.

When his contract is up next year, wonder if Channel 4 will offer him more to stay. He did say he might leave after 2009.

Paul tonight mentioning that he likes watching Meridian Tonight and when he's back at home Granada Tonight with Bob Greaves

He obviously hasn't watched Granada for about 15 years then!

The most recent series have been on in primetime but with only 4 guests so they can't really be stripped across a week.

I thought he just said 'Granada Reports'. I didn't hear Bob Greaves's name mentioned.

It was a real "plugging" show today what with Dawn French and Lorraine Kelly's autobiographies out in time for Christmas. Not to mention the constant throwbacks to Paul's own book.

I reckon there's a Blue Peter special tomorrow with Peter Purvis and Konnie Huq on the show - doubt Paul will be allowed the cross-promotion but see what happens.

Why do they bother with those 'ordinary people doing extraordinary things' VTs like today's dinnerlady climbing a mountain or whatever it was

They are hardly a major part of the show and seem to be used as filler. They must use a lot of the budget that could be used in a better way

What puts me off the "ordinary people" features is that it's fine when they're new, but when the same folk are used series after series they lose the point of having the "general public" involved in the first place.
