No he isn't. I enjoy the show as well.

I think it does need a few changes here and there, but it's alright for me. Just down to personal opinion I suppose.

Indeed. The best bit of the show is when he's chatting to guests-- those are the funniest and most entertaining parts of the show. He always complains he never gets enough time with guests, with the crew trying to 'move him on'.

I say get rid of the "chil-drens" type feature and possibly the organ game, after all R&J hardly suffered by removing YSWP from their show.

The special guests can be entertaining sometimes (educators from museums etc), as can the record- breaking attempts.

Please no more kids doing silly stuff or those pointless "we sent X and Y to Wherever Theme Park to test out the G-Force 7 ride" type features.

PAUL O'Grady is to join The Bill as a gangster.

The former Lily Savage drag star is in final talks with TV bosses to thrash out details of a three-month contract.

But the part - as a man - is a far cry from his last appearance on the police drama, when he appeared in several episodes as a prostitute informer called Roxanne in 1988.

The 52-year-old comic has rarely done serious roles and is eager to get to grips with the new character.

AdvertisementHe said: "I'd love to be in the show. My first acting part was in The Bill - but I can't come back as that character because they were killed off. I'd like to play someone who is incredibly evil."

A spokeswoman for the show confirmed yesterday they were in advanced talks.

She added: "We are looking at opportunities to bring Paul in. He wants to come into the show and we would absolutely love to have him on board."

Bosses hope his appearance will boost the drama, which has been running for almost 23 years on ITV, after recent ratings revealed around a million viewers had switched off, bringing weeknight figures to five million.

Producers have revamped the cast in recent months, hiring former EastEnder Louisa Lytton, and insiders say other big names are expected to be signed before the end of the year.

Liverpool-born Paul is back to full strength after a heart attack last year.

A TV source said: "Paul O'Grady is one of the hottest properties around and it will be a great coup for The Bill to get him on board. Everyone is thrilled at the prospect and so should the viewers be."

The heavy smoker is also due to sign a multimillion pound three-year deal to stay at Channel 4, where he presents The New Paul O'Grady Show.

Paul has scooped countless awards and two years ago won Best TV Entertainment Personality in the British Comedy Awards.

He won a Bafta in the same year and has received two Royal Television Awards and three National TV Awards.

But he loves The Bill and that was never going to change - he's always going on about wanting to appear on it whenever he is talking to a star from the show. I haven't watched a lot of it lately but I'd probably tune in again if he were to appear.

If ITV do want him to appear, maybe they should stop their petty games regarding Corrie and Emmerdale stars appearing on his show first?

I wouldn't have thought ITV have any involvement with the casting.
