His belief that he's the voice of the people is probably the most annoying this about the show.

The main issue is that there are no new ideas on the show. Items such as the Organ Game had to be dropped and to fill the space they just extended the other items. The production team must be the laziest in the business

Also how difficult would it be for Paul to pop along to Tescos and offer to 'pay' for someone's shopping in his 3 months off rather than getting the 'essex twins' to do it. Considering how they throw him about during the show, it'd hardly be the cause of a heart attack

Paul's opinions that change from day to day are quite grating too. He'll be slagging someone off with great applause one week and then have them on the show as 'the one and only...' the next

Ok, I will agree in part to that. Yes they do tend to do the same features, but they always do something different as part of the programme, whether it be irish dancing, west end production, theatre skit, etc. The features are repeating a lot, like more experiments today, but surely they've done this on many shows for years.

Shows like Letterman have survived (with huge ratings) churning out the same old format and guests for years.

If it aint broke....

I think the point is, that the show is all about Paul O'Grady himself, rather than the format of the show. This has been highlighted when he's had guest presenters in, and the show has usally fallen flat as a result.

Even if all of Paul's guests were stuffed animals, people will still tune in because it's Paul doing the show. I always think he personally is always of great entertainment value, I'm sure his fans won't disagree.

Good point about his bitching about people, then being nice to them when they come on the show! Paul did once admit he often thinks badly of some people, until he meets them in person, and finds he gets on well with them then! Trinny and Susannah being one exmaple.

But, Gavin, Dave has got away and survived because of the things wrapped around the show, he introduced new ideas and reworked old ones after letting them rest for a while. He champions new writers on his team and gets the production team to try new ideas out on the show, even if during the taping they don't really work. It's all part of the freshness. You get the feeling that O'Grady (and prod team) will hammer the most flimsy of ideas into a plup until it's dead, and even then will carry on as it once worked before.

Plus with Letterman, you don't get the same old tired guests on less than 4 months since the last apperance on the show, when all they have to talk about is their Christmas holidays to somewhere expensive and exotic.

Those overlong musical montages are really annoying. Previously they were used sparingly but now they are used on every show multiple times

They spend half the show telling us what sort of fun and games we should be having on the show

I agree. I think Paul is best when he's talking to guests, even though the guest list seems to be getting narrower these days Wink

I was watching Easter Monday's show and it looked like it was pre-recorded. Is that right.

So does that mean Paul is only working two days this week? Bit of a shame not having a proper live Easter show?

Were you really expecting one? If he won't work Thursdays he's hardly going to work on a Bank Holiday Monday is he?

Barbara Windsor AGAIN tonight - how come Richard and Judy seem to get much better guests - and they're not back every three months either!

Barb always seems to look younger now she's into her 70s. I do prefer her to his other mate Cilla. Was great to see Ann Emery (Dick Emery's sister), if you've seen her in the Billy Elliot musical - the energy that woman has is amazing.

It may come as a surprise surprise, but many of us in Liverpool don't particularly like Cilla Black either. Some refer to her as a 'plastic scouser' - i.e. someone who exploits their scouse upbringing for their own commercial benefit but wouldn't be seen dead back in the city itself. People like Paul O'Grady and Ricky Tomlinson, however, are pretty well respected because they are genuinely proud of their roots and frequently support/visit the city.

On another note, I've noticed that Paul is having to do a lot of strenuous routines during the majority of the shows this series. Surely that can't be good for him after 3 heart attacks?!

Rumour has it also that Ricky Tomlinson (who was not actually born in Liverpool) and Cilla don't get on. I once saw Ricky on one of his tours about 2 years ago and apparently during a line up for The Royal Variety Show he placed his hand on Cilla's shoulder (in a friendly gesture) and she went mad: "Errr! Get your hands of me! Do you know how much this dress cost?" etc.
