Nothing special is it? Touching on the pretentious too. Doesn't quite gel in my opinion (but I'm convinced Cliff Richard has discovered the elixir of youth).

Any other thoughts?

Kaplinsky hosting it is enough of a turn off.

This is also Eammon Holmes's first gig after leaving GMTV, well if you exclude hosting last week's Points of View.

Am I the only one who is disgusted by Daniel Bedingfield on tonight's "A Party To Remember"... This concert, as the title suggests, is to remember the war and celebrate 60 years since its end, by singing some songs of the time... and yet he gets away with singing one of his latest pop tunes!

I don't mind pop music (although I am more of a fan of the 80's and 90's than today's stuff) but I find it rather poor that they had to let him sing that in the middle of a concert of older songs... I don't know what the veterans made of it!

I don't watch many of her programmes, but at least you get the impression she's fairly genuine in what she says.

I'm afraid to say Holmes comes across in a very smug/smarmy way to me every time I see him, as if he'll present or say anything for the money. His attitude on 'The Apprentice' recently confirmed that to me.

Is it really that much of a stressful programme that Ms Kaplinsky has had to change into her THIRD gown of the proceedings?

Well, by the sound of it, it wasn't that good. Thank god I stuck with Heartbeat! Very Happy

It was an honour to see Dame Vera Lynn again. Not that I was there in 1945 but you know...

To add to my earlier comments, I thought Shane Richie's singing was awful too.. it did the song no justice!

It was lovely seeing all the veterans and Chelsea Pensioners standing for Dame Vera Lynn though.

Shouldn't that be "Narrr lets..."

Eammon would have fitted in well with Kaplinsky, reminding him of working with Fi-ona

Still it could have been Graham Norton

Well I'm not the only person who was a bit irritated about the programme - the BBC got 188 calls (mostly complaints - i've got a list of their contents if you like!!!) but they broke down into:

5 Calls: Thought that Shane Richie's performance was of a poor quality.
5 Calls: Claimed that Natasha Kaplinsky stated that VE Day marked 'the end of the war' and felt that she should have added 'in Europe'.
14 Calls: Thought that the singers were of a poor quality.
14 Calls: Felt that Katie Melua was a poor choice of singer.
22 Calls: Felt that the programme was excellent.
29 Calls: Felt that the programme was of a poor quality.
45 Calls: Felt that Eamonn Holmes was dismissive and disrespectful when speaking to the war veterans.

Do people really do that?

No doubt they said "More BBC! Worth the licence fee by itself" and were from the Home Counties!
