Unless of course Judy Finnegan decides to retire, then we could have Madeley on ITV again :

Oh dear - I think id rather watch Katie and Pete Rolling Eyes

I agree I think Vernon Kaye would be good I think.

VK could be good... in a few years time. Nothing against him personally, but he doesn't have the experience of Parky had before his show started in 1971, or a journalistic background either. VK is excellent at light entertainment, but a 'serious' talkshow... I'm not so sure

Not having a journalistic background is OK if you're doing "fluffy" interviews as on POG I think; but Parky has always strived to be deeper.. back in the day he could be hard-edged and asked awkward questions.

Lorraine Kelly-- now she would be excellent in Parky's role I think Very Happy She has the personality and presence; but she does have that serious journalist side to her.

What about Terry Wogan to replace him? His Now And Then show is wasted on UKTV Gold.

Who said there was going to be a replacement? Parky is Parky.

I meant what will ITV put in the slot to replace the programme.

Good thinking. He managed to do that show with Gaby Roslin on Five, and still do Wake Up With Wogan .

Does it have to be a chat show? Before Parky what kind of stuff was in the slot? If it has to be one, I can see Al Murray and Dame Edna taking it in turns.

Parkinson replaced the Premiership obvoisly that had only been in that slot for three years.

i personaly think that parkys move to ITV was the beginning of the end for him. since switching to the channel his show has become commercialized, his geust have been on telly all week saying exactly the same anecdotes and the same stories as on every other program on the network just to sell their book or their film or anything els they can plug. i just feel its lost the depth it once had on the bbc where after the interview u wud feel uve learnt sumthing more about his geust and not just that their just using it as a PR stunt.

Parkie's an iconic icon in TV and Radio - will he also retire from Radio too or just from his TV Show 'Parkinson' ? Rolling Eyes

Nice tautology! Wink

He hasn't mentioned anything on his radio show, AFAIK.

I do agree about Parky going soft on his move to ITV. It tends to be a case of "tell us about your new book/movie/single..." and that's it (in a sense).

There are still shades of the old Parky, he irked George Michael the other week, but he is no where near as probing as he was on the BBC I don't think

The best thing about Parky is the show is about his guests, he always lets them do the talking; unlike Wossy, who uses his show as a vehicle for his inflated ego, rather than a meaningful interview IMO

Not much of an interview if the host does all the talking and the guest only manages a few words-- ought to be the other way round Smile
