I don't understand the whole "we'll launch the channel but add the quality content later" thing - look at the likes of Tru TV and a few others at that end of the Freeview EPG. Full of big ideas and promises when they launch that fail to materialise. Surely you launch *with* the quality?

The thing is TRU TV in the USA is completely different but that revamp never took place until after UK version was launched. Maybe there believe there had to get the channel started and then move over the content. Again the same could be happening here.
Sky, Freesat, Virgin Media UK will definitely get the channel on all TV providers in the UK and possibly Ireland too which sounds great. Another question though is when will it launch? The last time I had Comedy Central in Ireland; it was on Cablelink in the 90's. It was aired after Nickelodeon ended at 10pm. I had other channels as well like TMF. Having the Paramount Channel, even though it is not the same as Comedy Central, will be very welcome.
It sounds like a premium channel, surprised it is free. I still miss MGM HD.
Indeed. I think it's a mistake to waste the Paramount brand on a Freeview/Freesat channel.
It would have been much better as a rival to Universal, FOX and Sony on Pay TV.
It cheapens the brand. Sony have made the same mistake using their brand on their Freeview/Freesat movie channel.
DIsagree. Freeview needs more quality channels like Paramount, and less tat like shopping channels, +1 channels and cheapo channels that constanty broadcast 10+ year old reality based crime documentaries. If this new relaunched version of The Paramount Channel is a modern day version of what we got in 1995, it could be good competition for CBS Action and/or CBS Drama, and UKTV's Drama.

Viacom will have no doubt decided to launch the Paramount Channel based on their success with Spike and Channel 5 - also makes sense from a business and viewer perspective.
Putting it on Pay TV would strengthen its content, but would it really perform to the expectations of Viacom? Surely they now see FTA as a more feasible market to invest in.
As for Sony - their general entertainment Sony Channel has not done them favours on a paywall; and I dare say that the Sony Movie Channel is doing much better than it did as a Sky-only channel. For the latter it was a long term plan of consolidation.
I doubt the "new" Paramount Channel will eventually rebrand as a comedy channel again, seeing as we already have GOLD and (the former Paramount Comedy Channel) Comedy Central. So we're unlikely to ever get "gems" like this again . . .
