This isn't entirely correct, YouView devices don't carry the Freeview branding, but they are fully D-Book compliant, which is the Freeview spec. In fact the latest version of the D-Book carries YouView branding as well as Freeview. I believe they also go through the DTG's testing process, which is the only requirement to use Freeview branding, so the lack of it is probably a marketing decision.
Not sure I agree with this, I know a number of people who have BT TV and they're very aware that it's "Freeview" with extra channels. I think most people with any of the YouView services know that they're watching the free channels from digital terrestrial. Also as far as I'm aware none of the YouView providers do engineer installs, they just send out the boxes with basic instructions on connecting them to the aerial, TV and Ethernet.
Technically, it is a seperate service. Youview is not Freeview; and technically isn’t 100% compliant with the Freeview spec, so is not allowed to use the Freeview name anywhere.

In a word: yes. Using one of these boxes, there is no obvious difference to the average user whether their TV is being deivered by DTT or IP. They just know they have a ‘BT box’ or a ‘Talktalk box’ (akin to one having a ‘Sky box’). Quite often, it’s an engineer who does the install anyway, so they are further none the wiser. Not everyone understands or cares how their TV is being deivered - just that they can watch the channels they want.
