Presumably the loss of 15 minutes means that the programmes will go into less depth than before- which, dare I say, could be vaguely linked to dumbing down?

My understanding is Panorama will have a longer run to compensate for this.

Yes, it will have longer series and some hour long specials.

Panorama was 30 minutes long when it used to be on at 8:30 on mondays

I thought it was 50 minutes from 810 to 9pm on Mondays?

ISTR the schedule ran roughly :

720 Star Trek
810 Panorama
900 News
925 Drama series 50 mins approx
etc

Slightly off topic, what was normally on between Nationwide & Star Trek?

I'm guessing the likes of 'Ask The Family' !

Anyone in the Midlands remember the rotating M & the sports headlines at 858?

When did the 925 regional bulletin start?

It's a bit of mixed outlook for Panorama-

The GOOD:
Increase in total hours broadcast.
Move to primetime
On for 48 weeks of the year, making it truly an always present show.

The BAD:
Pre-watershed slot will make some issues impossible to cover- these will be limited to the four 1 hour specials.
Likely to take over "Real Story" agenda, featuring interview episodes. Of course Panorama has done this before (e.g. the infamous Diana interview), but it should never be bigger than the investigative journalism.
Shorter episodes likely to hinder in-depth reporting.
Against Corrie, but this could be a blessing as whatever figures it pulls will be acceptable.

From a personal point of view, I would love to see Panorama given a 45 minute or 1 hour slot after the watershed on a weeknight, running most of the year (not necessarily 48 weeks though). Something like 9pm on Monday nights would be brilliant and a true commitment to the show.

I agree, overall with the current plans i'd prefer it to stay as it is currently. I really hope it doesn't turn into Real Story, which is sadly on par with Tonight.

However hour long programmes, scheduled at 9pm could be brilliant. It would also be possible to schedule quite easily, airing in the weeks when Crimewatch doesn't in the Wednesday slot, with some reserved for Whistleblower and similar.

Absoloutely correct -schedule for Monday 12th May 1980 ; although in this schedule you can swap Star Trek for the Dukes of Hazzard. Later, around 1983-84, regional programmes filled the Monday early evening slot (or Rolf Harris Cartoon Time in the South East).

Panorama was cut by ten minutes and moved to 9.25 as part of the BBC1 schedule (and ident!) changes in February 1985, a change for which I was eternally grateful.

September 1985, coinciding with that particular relaunch of the Nine O'Clock News.

Looking at your link, I must admit I don't remember the films at 925(I always thought they started later in the evening)., or the early evening non news regional programmes on BBC 1(I only remember the Friday 1015 slot, where I think one of the progs I saw was Sue Beardsmore's 'Balloon' prog! When was 'Doolan At Large' & 'Biking Butler' shown in the Midlands schedule?)

I'm shocked I managed to remember most of a 1980 BBC 1 schedule personally
