I suppose I should be thankful it's coming back out of its graveyard slot, but scheduling it in the 'difficult' slot opposite Corrie doesn't really strike me as the right thing for the BBC's flagship current affairs programme.
I also hope the content isn't tailored for a mid-evening primetime audience. Scheduling it before the watershed though might mean some topics are out of bounds or subject to more editing and censorship.

I always thought putting it on straight after the news was the best bet for the programme (Like now) why move it?

I've always felt Monday 8.30pm would be the right slot for it.
Tonight shows that for the right topics, you can pull in good ratings against the big soaps - and I think Panorama should do OK here!
Generalising hugely here, but I doubt the average Panorama viewers is the average Corrie viewers!
More importantly though, it frees up the Sunday night schedule.
With the 10pm news on weeknights and Match of the Day on Saturdays, Sunday night is the only slot where the BBC could run post-watershed films and drama uninterupted.
I would assume the Sunday 10pm News will become more flexible too now Panorama is going!

But Tonight pulls in good ratings at that time thanks to populist stories and consumer issues. I really hope Panorama doesn't go down a similar route with the inevitable increased pressure to deliver ratings in this time-slot.
Well I fall into both camps, and I'm sure out of Corrie's typical 8-9million viewers there will be a fair few who would otherwise watch Panorama. Inevitably you're never going to get your best ratings scheduled at the same time as the country's most popular programme.

PS
This sounds to me like they could be trying to get rid of Panorama, like they did with Top of the Pops: put it up against Coronation Street. I suppose the BBC have to schedule
something
against it, mind.
Presumably the loss of 15 minutes means that the programmes will go into less depth than before- which, dare I say, could be vaguely linked to dumbing down?

The 30 minute slot used to work for This Week/TV Eye and for World In Action, so why shouldn't it work for Panorama. Does this mean the end of Real Story, though, or is it still going to be twice a week (730pm Monday and Friday????)

My understanding is Panorama will have a longer run to compensate for this.

Yes, it will have longer series and some hour long specials.
Panorama was 30 minutes long when it used to be on at 8:30 on mondays
