It doesn't look like it's going to be pulled - there was a One to Watch trailer for it just before the Six . And it's in the headlines on the Six .

I thought Ofcom was in charge of all broadcasters?

The BBC is self-regulating. Ofcom only get involved at a higher level after the complaint is handled by the BBC complaints procedure. It's the same as the pre-ofcom days when the BSC (Broadcasting Standards Council) and the BCC (Broadcasting Complaints Commission) handled standards and specific personal cases above the BBC.

Either way, I wouldn't be surprised if tonight's Panorama was pulled. Even though Scientology is generally regarded as a cult for nutters, there's no denying that it's got a lot of legal clout behind it. However, the odds are stacked against it.

It's been run past a lawyer or 2 at the BBC so there shouldn't be a problem. The editor seems confident

This is possibly looking to be the best edition of Panorama I've ever watched... and they say spaghetti grows on trees.

Lmao, I cant help but laugh. Ive never seen a journalist be so passionate about a subject to a degree that they explode. Fantastic!

Excellent programme, if anything I think John Sweeney came out on top of this, their leader showed himself up bigtime.

THE best Panorama for a while - journalism at its best IMO.

I'll be requesting a copy of that on DVD...

This was SHOCKING! I can imagine what John went through, no wonder he shouted.

Can't help but think the fact that Panorama is now only 30 minutes really limited this programme. You felt like you were getting a sort of hashed together collection of the 'best bits' of the recording. Still, powerful stuff.

And if you're a resident of Norwich, look out for next week's show ; )

It wasn't really passion for the subject so much as frustration and anger.

Top programme (and thankfully the cameramane didn't look like they had Parkinsons Disease like the last time i watched it!)

Oh I totally agree, it was such a good programme tonight, it's a damn shame it only got 30 mins. Sad

What an excellent programme. After having watched the clip used a few days ago on YouTube, it is interesting to see the BBC's response to it. Again, I echo the sentiments I wish we'd had an hour of programming for the material Sweeney had collected. I am intrigued to as to why the Scientologists have published no comments about the programme, other than the shouting match. I also feel that the Scientilogists pulling the interviews that were to have made the programme have a more balnced feel is, ulitmately, shooting themselves in the foot.

On a sidenote, has anyone noticed how the new version of the theme tune starts to sound a lot better with more listenings? IIRC I originally described it as sounding like a 'horror movie' but since that it's really started to grow on me.
