I work for BBC Panorama and you may have heard we're making a programme investigating the spate of phone-in TV scandals. We're interested in hearing from anyone that has taken part in these quiz channels or phone ins and may have something to say about the way the competition was run. In some cases we believe contestants for quizzes and competitions are told they are going to be selected to play, and are called back by the production team, while in the meantime calls for the audience to 'call in now' continue... does that sound familiar to anyone?

If you have a story to share, you can call us in confidence on 07807 262173 or contact me via this site.

Thanks a lot

Eleanor

(By the way, we are using a mobile number because it was the quickest to set up - however we'll call you back straight away to minimise the expense, just in case that looks odd considering the subject at hand!)

This has already been posted in the requests forum and is a hoax.

How do you know this is a hoax?

Mobile phone number, spamming to multiple forums, no link to the Panorama website where there's an equally good form you can use... I smell a rat.

Smell what you want, but Eleanor is legitimate, hence why Asa has allowed her to post here.

And they say Panorama is dumbing down?

Not even Tonight with Trevor McDonald has touched this (as far as I know) - and if they had, I'm sure it would have been when the scandal first broke - not three months later!

I wouldn't touch this with a bargepole.

I'd like to apologise to Eleanor for the rudeness she has encountered in this thread.

I can understand the concerns which have arisen from you leaving a mobile number rather than an office number, but the subject of phone-in scandals is one that interests a great many of us here and I'm sure you will get someone willing to help. Good luck.

I think Asa should setup a special level of account, for members of the industry to post, and people can see the genuine from the faux.

Oops... Embarassed

Sorry Eleanor. Welcome to TV Forum. I'm do apologise for my mistake earlier...

Either way, there's bound to be a few people here who are willing to share their experiences. I myself don't have experience with this sort of thing, so as far as that goes I can't help you, I'm afraid.

As for what Martin suggested in setting up a usergroup/rank for users who are in the industry, that's seconded by me.

Supermarket Sweep strikes again then! Wink

Really, this place has grown it's loyal following - both from fans and people who work in the industry - as it's not full of spammers - and whether official or not, this is still spam.

I don't really object to things like casting calls or asking for input into shows like this, but I don't think posting them as a thread in a forum is the most effective way to do it - and generally as people sign up especially for the purpose, and members have no way of knowing whether or not Asa has approved of it, it'll always be treated with caution.

Perhaps the best way of dealing with things like this would be for those wanting to use the forum for those purposes to e-mail Asa (or the mods) with the details, and then for them to post them either in a specific dedicated thread or even better, on their own page.
