Have you heard of something called a VCR?

Yes, but some of us have things like Tivo and Sky+, and find late-night and +1 showings VERY handy for catching programmes on second showing.

Come on guys! We can't lose Ceefax! Many often a time when it's 3.00am in the morning and I can't get to sleep, I just switch on BBC2 and the soothing music knocks me out like a trout. Plus, it'll mean the end of those fab closedown announcements when they bother to do them!

Why don't they use the downtime to show "BBCi In View"?
"Ceefax In View" was introduced to plug Ceefax to people who hadn't got the facility to receive it themselves.

Surely in this digital age when BBCi's Digital Text services are the ones the Beeb wants to promote, why don't they compile a carousel of BBCi pages and transmit them in a sequence, to show off the service to those who HAVE only got analogue - therefore using the time as a promotional tool for the service.

It should be easy enough for their servers to carry a script which grabs a selection of certain pages each day, sends rendered images of them to a still store, which would simply cycle through pre-determined slide numbers whenever there is time to fill? It would be a Beeb equivalent to ITV Nightscreen, only better.

Surely the whole point of Tivo and Sky+ is so that you CAN record the original showing, even if you can't watch it at the time! D'oh... Rolling Eyes

Er, Mark ... Tivo will only record one channel at once.

Sky will record and let you view another channel - but often there's plenty of other stuff on you want recorded.

The problem gets worse during the footy season, with plenty of my 'primetime' viewing being taped ...

So you can see - there is often congestion (for want of a better word) around the original showings .. hence comments about timeshifting.

They are invaluable to the 250,000 people with PVRs - and that number WILL go up in the next few years, mark my words! Especially if the rumours about Sky+ pricing are true.

Have you heard of something called the 'outdoors'?

It seems to me that you are only bothered about the music aspect of Ceefax pages. I thought there were loads of CDs available with this type of stuff on - isn't that enough? Rolling Eyes

If Ceefax Pages are to continue, I would prefer to see the digital version, perhaps with looped programmes over the top - a screen format similar to Bloomberg, perhaps.

Perhaps he could get his remote to hit random buttons, thus getting the overnight Ceefax affect ... then we could all club together and send him a CD of sh!t lift music? Problem solved! Okay, can a mod close this thread ... hehehe Very Happy

A host of sadder ******* I have yet to see.

I think it's the SL-bashers brigade who need to get a life - if that's the thing they get the biggest buzz from... Rolling Eyes Far more off-topic than the SL topics they spend PAGES and PAGES and THREADS and THREADS complaining about...

There is no easy way to provide a live "carousel" of BBCi pages in the way Pages from Ceefax works.

Fact is that virtually no-one will sit watching Ceefax, but some people will watch News 24 (or indeed any other "real programme"). I'm amazed that Pages from Ceefax has lasted this long.

My reply was on topic, Mark. I mentioned that the music was available on CDs, and proposed an alternative. Now, if you have a problem with that, I suggest you pull your hand out from your trousers and try some Rescue Remedy.

Your reply was not on topic because you simply mentioned muzak CDs in a way to dig at Simon, not an earnest post about library music.

Also I don't think I need to justify my slagging off of your attitude since you're the one stooping to toilet humour (yet again), not myself.

You really are a waste of space.
