I often pass through BBC1 late Friday/early Saturday and can honestly say I've seen no signed programmes.Though I have noticed the Sign Zone during the week is expanding the range of genres.
I'm relieved and suppose I should be grateful. But as more and more people are going digital, this makes even less sense. It's as if N24 is desperate for viewers! Why not just have N24 overnights on analogue?
As for BBC1, why do we need repeats of TOTP/Question Of Sport et al late Fridays anyway?
Good point - but since the closure of the good old analogue transmission area (NTA) and the subsequent closure of the Opt Suite in the DTA - its now tricky to split the analogue/digital streams!
I'm afraid that the end is nigh for the days of test card/ ceefax and music!!! R.I.P.
What is shown at the weekend when BBC2 closes down at 5am before starting again an hour later for Weekend 24 (Sat) or Fimbles (Sun)? Is this the Ceefax zone?
Maybe they should show pages from BBCi with News 24 in the quarter-screen for analogue viewers and pages from Ceefax for digital viewers.
I think that a public service broadcaster, such as the BBC needs to make much of an efford in late night programming.
I came home late one night late last weekend after a pub-lockin with a few of the lads from the local policestation - it was a classy doo, a few 16 year old girls lap dancing (they couldn't get into the nightclub), and a few games of poker. I had a snifter of port too. Very nice.
Anyway, I digress, after I arrived back at the Wellington Dungeon, I poped on the television, defaulting to channel BBC1, and I found it to be broadcasting News 24. I can't even remember that BBC 2 had on - it wasn't very interesting.
Personally, during the night I believe the BBC should do a "catch up" style service on BBC1, with News 24/ learning zone on BBC 2. This way, those poor souls who wrong during the night or whatever can see some of their favourite programmes, instead of teletext and the same boring news over and over again. We all know late night rolling news it hardly eventful. As I understand it, BBC News 24 feature programming is at best, weak.
I also think that The Learning Zone should be made into a dedicated Digital Channel. Instead of this BBC 3 nonsense, of which all the programming would not look out of place on primetime BBC 2 would be much better utilised for learning purposes.
Rebroadcasting programmes with signing should no longer be neccessary - Digital TV provides the technology to enable signing with a simple press of the red button.
I can deal with Ceefax going but it'll be a shame if the BBC One no "goodnight" speech rule (certainly seems to be the case on Network) before News 24 feeds its way to BBC Two. Still, with no clock, name check and sometimes no ident anymore, what's the point in bothering to moan I guess?

I think 'Sailing By' should be included somewhere.. maybe some designer can do a calming video 'chillout' sequence to go with it....

Oh yes, I'm all in favour of Sailing By.
I just don't see what's wrong with: "Well that's it from BBC ONE tonight. Now, taking us up to Breakfast at 6.00, we hand over to the studios of BBC News 24. Goodnight."
