I fail to understand how a replacement level two (or even level three or four) generator could be too expensive for the BBC to produce.
Is there an explanation for this?

Yeah, the thing works onscreen so why bother spending even a penny on a replacement? Change for the sake of change....and that's exactly why Ceefax continues. It's convenient and readily available. I'm sure there isn't even a debate in the Beeb over whether to replace it with a static holding slide.

Interesting to note "This is BBC Two" is on from 11.40pm tomorrow night. Obviously N24 will be shown (it's probably just listed wrong) but if this had been the case before the joining N24 policy was introduced, would that have been the earliest PFC had been shown for years?

Nice to see the closedown annos still continuing but some of them are so mundane - usual Learning Zone plug and "..here's Ceefax." Manju Malhi seems to the same script each time which is a shame considering she did so many in the old BBC Two days.

Nice one the other night though with the ending "...after some Pages from Ceefax and music to conjour up images of the Amalfi Coast ." Cue Italian-type music.

This is a presentation forum

There's presentation and there's nit-picking.

I'll leave the rest of the viewers to either produce a one hundred page thread on green flashes, or not, as the case may be.

If this type of picture distrubance occurred during normal programming, I doubt very much that you or others would refer to it in such terms.

We'll find out, won't we.

My second paragraph, which you didn't bother to quote, still applies.

Tell you what, I'd rather be able to work out for myself whether or not a comment on green flashes is nit-picking, rather than having someone point it out for me.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but this topic wouldn't have spilled over into a second page of comments on green flashes if you hadn't pointed it out in the first place, would it? Rolling Eyes

Well, I WILL correct you, seeing as you ask, as, if you look up at the top of this page, I think you'll find it was Asa who started the second page, not me.

My FIRST mention of nit picking is in the second post of page two, so you can hardly blame me for the existance of the second page.

Feel free to post your apology when you're ready!

Now now children Razz .

Have to say I have nothing against Pages From Ceefax being shown (it's one of those things that you're happy to see as a sort of nostalgic throwback to the times when things like this were on all the time), but I fail to see the point of putting the thing on for all of five minutes. There's hardly enough time to go through the menus.

A static slide with some of the next day's programmes, or saying what was coming up next, would have done the job I reckon. Of course, perhaps that would have taken some effort...

Just going back to the conversation about closedowns, I happened to be up at 1am on Saturday morning and as BBC ONE was closing down, instead of the usual "Through the night with BBC News 24" announcement, we actually got a namecheck from the King of the Continuity booth - Dean Lydiate! It was the first namecheck I'd heard on BBC ONE in ages!

Now who's being nit-picking?

Why did you even enter this thread in the first place, Nick?
Come to that, why do you even enter this forum at all, when its topic base is quite obviously something that is below you or of no interest.

I think you're the one who has a few apologies to issue; nobody else has done anything here either wrong, offensive or pointless in relation to the purpose of the forum. Whereas your constant bickering is off-topic, offensive and tiresome. Just who do you think you are?

Using Pages From Ceefax is very dated now...

...despite it being much superior to BBCi in terms of content and quality.
Ceefax information is the most appropriate thing to show - A slide is hardly interesting, and BBCi is unsulitable bue to design and content quality.

I also think that the viewer count is so low at that time of night there is no need for fancy graphics etc. - Nightscreen has all these posh stings and graphics which look much better than ITV1s presentation but next to no viewers to enjoy them - they should have stuck with the Powerpoint-style graphics pre-2002.

Out of interest does anyone know the average viewing figures for Nightscreen?

What I don't understand is why does it appear we are set for Pages From Ceefax tonight from 00.20-1.00am on BBC-2 whilst BBC-1 is still running normal programming into the early hours, whilst next Monday night/Tuesday morning there are plans afoot to fill the gap from 00.30-1.00am with News 24? It makes no sense whatsoever!
