Why do some shows use hand mics and others don't?

Given that the contestants are wearing DPA-like headset mics, I suspect the presenter may not have wanted to wear one, so they went with a stick instead?

AKA "when did 'Independent Television' fall out of use?"

To be fair to him this was during 2008 at the height of ITV troubles, He did state the PSB was valued at £40million and ITV provide the local/national news, CITV and a few other bits n bobs for that....
