Padding Things Out

A question about adverts (April 2020)

I've just downloaded the Red Dwarf feature length episode "The Promised Land" so no spoilers please.

It ran last night for 2 hours but when I downloaded it today the EPG said it ran for 47 minutes. Now I know that commercials extend the length of programmes which is why I tend to wait until the following day to use catch up.

Does anyone think there are too many adverts and does it spoil your emjoyment?

(NB I know this has probably been asked before but I'm just trying to take minds off everything. One more thing and I really mean this. Happy Easter)

That's definitely not right, are you sure there aren't two parts to download? There's no way a 2 hour slot would only have 47 mins of a show. That's the runtime of an hour long slot show.

As I understand it the episode was one feature length story. I'm looking at the Sky EPG and it says 47 minutes.

It's listed on UKTV Play as two 47 minute episodes for some reason so you've got another one to download.

There can only be 12 minutes of advertisements per hour if I remember rightly.

There are various Red Dwarf entries on the Catch Up section for Dave and this show:

Outtakes listed as 11 minutes, deleted scenes at 8 minutes, and the "behind the scenes" at 34 minutes. That's another 53 minutes (but the actual durations will be less, since the main feature is listed as 55minutes but downloads as 47).

I think what might have happened is they've split it up for on demand and the two hour special is the main production and all the other above stuff tacked on. You might want to record the 8pm showing on Sunday to be sure.

The on-demand version is in two hour-long parts (or roughly 45 mins for an hour slot each), with a "to be continued" at the end of part one. That's not how it went out last night, but I'm guessing in future Dave might show it in that format over two nights, for example.

I've set the Sunday showing to record. Have to say though its a bit of a swiz only having 1 part to download.

UKTV Play has both parts, I'd assume Sky does as well?
