Just looking at the BBC site about studios at Pacific Quay and I'm interested to see that Studio B doesn't have a gallery. It can either be operated from the Studio A or C gallery or from a scanner.

Am I missing something or is this a bit short sighted?

No - it is quite a sensible move, and not that unusual. The BBC have a similar operation in Elstree - or have done.

It allows you to have a standing set in one studio without tieing up the gallery permanently, or be setting/striking in one studio whilst using the gallery for another production in the other studio.

If you need to run both studios at the same time you use an OB truck to provide the second gallery - much more cost effective than having two permanent galleries with them both only partially utilised.

Also - it allows News or Sport to use their gallery to do a larger show with the same familiar production equipment and systems by using their gallery, rather than having to decamp. Could be useful during elections etc.
