I know RTL: owns a bit of talkback thames..

They own all of Talkback Thames

Talkback Thames is owned by Fremantle, not RTL, surely?

RTL owns the Freemantle and Talkback Thames brands (amongest others), they're both parts of the RTL Group. IIRC originally 'Freemantlemedia' is used more outside the UK, 'Thames' in the UK because it was a more familar brand

Talking of brands owned by Bertlesmann (the parent company of RTL), does anyone know if the Grundy Productions name (mainly associated with Neighbours) has now been renamed - as discussed in another thread a few months ago?

Grundy is still on the end of Neighbours i think. But I think it is owned by fremantle media group

Here a list of programmes owned by
Fremantle media,
http://licensing.fremantlemedia.com//properties_list.htm
IT includes Blockbuster! so ITV doesn't own THAT!

It seem that ITV Doesn't OWN half of central Back catalogue After all!

and so along with with thames catalogue which there took there to Fremantle Media

Personnel I love to know HOW Fremantle Media got hold of some of Central programmes? and also other ITV shows

so the Questions in hand:

ITV seems to hold most of "Central" back catalogue under the arm of ITV plc although it still Carlton) form most things, like News, ATV, local programmes BUT NOT Gameshow,

Fremantle Media controls Gameshow now, but how and when did there get control of them?.

Does Carlton screen advertisement count towards ITV adverts revenue?

and all the production company that were brought up are now under the Granada name Expect for ITV ones which are named: ITV Production

and how does ITV make any money of X factor? fremantle media owns that as well!

ITV actually own very few gameshow formats, only Bullseye and The Krypton Factor actually come to mind. What it was that back in the old days a Company that owned a format who wanted to make a gameshow went to an ITV company to make the programme, as pre-1993 almost everything on ITV was made by ITV.

As the years have gone on, the small companies (in both ITV and gameshow formats) have been taken over and are usually part of a much bigger group, which in gameshow land is TalkbackThames. Now as the rules have changed Independents can make shows directly for ITV without going through a station and this is how TalkbackThames are responsible for The Price Is Right rather than Central or Yorkshire, they produced the show but they don't own the rights to the format.

Same goes for Supermarket Sweep etc etc

No, it would have been the other way round. The production company (Thames, Central etc) would approach the owner of the format in order to make the programme.

So for example someone at ATV would have seen 'Family Feud' and wanted to make their own version so would have licensed the rights from Goodson Todman. The diffrence now is that the owner of the formats is also a production company. Alrthough Goodson Talbot were a production company in the US their formats were licensed/diesributed here and the didn't produce them

Most of the gameshow formats from the 70's and 80's were owned by Goodson Todman and their names were normally on the credits. See http://www.tvparty.com/games3.html

After Mark Goodson died the formats were sold to a company called 'All American' which were then bought by Pearson TV and now therefore are a part of the RTL group.

Most game show formats that weren't owned by All American were owned by Reg Grundy productions so are now all owned by the RTL group/Freemantle, along with newer formats such as The Apprentice

You're getting confused between the gameshows themselves and the formats.

Programme formats such as Family Fortunes, Blockbusters, The Price is Right, This is Your Life, What's My Line were never owned by the companies that made them for ITV.

However the programmmes themselves do still belong to the companies that made them. So ITV PLC still own old episodes of The Price is Right, Family Fortunes etc

Central Independent Television Ltd became ITV Central Ltd

Shocked So, Carlton Communications never bothered to officially change Central 's name (e.g. at Companies House; on the Broadcast Licence; etc etc) to, say, " Carlton Broadcasting for Central England Ltd " (or something), then? I'd always assumed that they had! Embarassed

I'm not sure how literally (or not, as the case may be) I should be reading your sentence about HTV. Confused

Are you saying that the two HTV's are still a joint thing (i.e. " ITV Wales & West Ltd ")? Or are they now individually " ITV West Ltd " and " ITV Wales Ltd ", (and therefore finally separate entities)?

PS, surely everything (both old and new names) should end with "plc", rather than "Ltd"?? I'm almost certain that Central was " Central Independent Television plc "??

yeah but the new companies are wholly owned subsidiaries of ITV plc and are therefore just limited companies.
