Blimey it's confusing.

The ITC name has always confused me - So for clarification, ITC were a seperate company that had a share in ATV?
What did ITC stand for?
No Idea

The ITC was the Independent Television Commission, a governmental body set up under Margaret Thatcher's government to replace the Independent Broadcasting Authority. The ITC conducted the 1993 franchise round and renewed all of the ITV franchise holder's contracts in 1999 for a further ten years (2013). The ITC ceased to exist in December 2003 and is now part of Ofcom.
The ITC was a regulator therefore could not own stakes in companies.

NO ITV own everything 0f Carlton as carlton make up 50% of ITV

Although it was a "merger", officially Granada took over Carlton. Granada's shares make up more than 50% of the company, whereas Carlton's are less than 50% as Granada was the bigger company.

What's happened to the name rights of other former ITV companies - obviously Victor Lewis-Smith has Rediffusion, Thames to Pearson, Ian White TV-am... what about the others?

ITV still holds them and use them for teh liences for channel3[/quote]

On 29 December...

Border Television Ltd officially became ITV Border Ltd
Central Independent Television Ltd became ITV Central Ltd
HTV Group Ltd became ITV Wales and West Ltd
Meridian Broadcasting Ltd became ITV Meridian Ltd.

No not that ITC it was Lew Grade's company before the governing board was formed.

The ITC is famous for being the ITV franchise that never was & instead being a independent producer of such hit 60's & 70's ITV series including The Saint & Man In A Suitcase

Interestingly according to Wikipedia, the ATV/Central news archive is still in their old studios in Nottingham as part of Nottingham University

That's correct, it's part of the media and screen archive of the East Midlands. They store hundreds of old films of the East Midlands there, which occasionally feature on CNE (probably to skimp on doing a couple of extra reports to fill the programme Wink )

I thought that ITVplc was made up of 70% Granada Media Group, and only 30% Carlton Communications? Confused

So back in the "good old days" when Central pres was in Brum, would material held in Nottingham have been physically taken to Brum for TX playout or would it be sent down the line?

No idea. I'd assume there was a library at Brum too. But obviously there was far more room at Nottingham, especially after the move to Gas Street. Remember too that under Carlton the archive was far bigger due to all the films they owned

Interestingly according to Wikipedia, the ATV/Central news archive is still in their old studios in Nottingham as part of Nottingham University

both... in the early days of EMTC there was Pres in Nottingham... latterly just an MCR existed, but still a mixture of live and off-tape transmissions were co-ordinated through there
LT
Len Tonlane
Towards the end LNN networked all Nottingham made programmes, Birmingham would do all local programmes, Nottingham would feed LNN all "live" and quick turn around network shows (eg Design Wars)

I think the "Carlton America" would come under the Granada Int'l banner now, I believe it's the same for Carlton's Action time (now Granada)

A quick search reveals it's defunct.

does ITV own any other production companies, and there all come under the name: ITV production?

I know RTL: owns a bit of talkback thames..

I think it make since keeping the name Carlton for it On screen adverts, I don;t think people would like ITV screen adverts, although it would make more sence as ITV is the biggest TV advertise in UK and cinema Wink
