I know exactly what you mean! For some reason alot of people where I work have set Comic Sans as their default font for emails, in the mistaken belief that it looks more personal and friendly - whereas in fact it just looks sloppy and lacks gravitas if you are emailing about a serious subject.
Personally, I use Century Gothic for emails because it looks quite clean and fresh, and is easy to read on screen or when printed.

Just as long as Comic sans does not become popular - I will be happy.

On a news report a year or so ago, I saw a draft Government Bill being held up by a woman outside the House of Commons, and guess what font was used...>?!?!?!?!

Was watching a thing on Descovery the other day about building tunnels and they showed what happens in an emergancy - in the shelters the emergancy instructions were all in comic sans.

Yes, using Comic Sans is the design equivalent of calling yourself "crazy" or "bubbly". Annoying.
Our corporate font is a very nice custom version of Din, which still looks lovely even if I see it constantly. But even then we've been flirting with that wide Swiss/Helvetica that BBC One uses.
Anyway, instead of Swiss, Helvetica and of course Arial, why not use Univers or Zurich? They're much nicer.

Century Gothic. Hmm, www.gategourmet.com... Gate Gourmet's corporate font. Enough to put you off, really...

DIN does have various weights.

I favour Conduit ITC personally. Better than DIN as there are various weights. Surprised not that many channels use it.

That's FF DIN - not DIN 1451 Mittleschrift. It's like Franklin Gothic, there are only 5 versions normally, but ITC Franklin Gothic has over 10 versions.
