The Office. I've watched several episodes. I've tried to get the joke, but it's just not possible!

Woo hoo Brekkie Boy! I couldn't agree with you more! The Office starring Ricky Gervais is seriously BAD television...

...as I have said before! Exclamation

Eastenders
Coronation Street - at the moment
Max and Paddy's Road To Nowhere - nowhere near Phoenix Nights standard
Extras - The Office was great, but this wasn't as good and didn't make me laugh out loud, the best episode was the Les Dennis one
Sex and The City - People say how great it is, I've tried watching it twice but I just can't get into it
Will & Grace - Same reason
Big Brother - You feel left out if you don't watch it, but I haven't been able to like it for years now
I'm A Celebrity/Celebrity Bonk Island - I know a few people who watched this, I just can't get into them and refuse to watch them as it signifies a new low in Television
Friday Night With Jonathan Ross -It isn't bad, but it's not like it's the best thing since sliced bread

Oh dear. No taste! Absolutely no taste whatsoever! Wink

I liked The Office. I'd say these American comedies (excluding The Simpsons) are terribly overrated. I.e.. Friends, Lost, Desperate Housewives... Rolling Eyes

Lost is seriously overated. One of the most expensive and confusing things I've ever seen.

Confusing?

I think not.

Certainly it works on lots of different layers within the programmes and arc of the series, but I'd prefer to have a programme that interests me *and* makes me think a little.

Here is my list of overrated shows on television and in no particular order:

The Office
Extras
Little Britain
Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere
Cold Feet
Bo Selecta
The Peep Show
Ali G
Nighty Night
Friends
Sex and the City
Ally McBeal
Will and Grace
The Simpsons
Absolutely Fabulous
The Vicar of Dibley
French and Saunders
Anything with Caroline dreary Quentin
Anything with Robson acts like jelly Green
Anything with Ross hardman Kemp
Anything with James smug b*st*rd Nesbitt

How dare the person criticise Keeping Up Appearances for been overrated. Keeping Up Appearances drew 16/17 million viewers so how can that be overrated. Programmes in my opinion are only overrated if people rave and shout about them and say how good they are but when you look at the viewing figures hardly anybody has watched them. So what does that tell you.

By your own measure, why would TV bosses cut back on soaps when they pull 11 million viewers?

I expect you'll have a petition up regarding all the shows you listed about before the night is out.

lol! Petition: "Cut down all overrated TV programmes on TV including soaps and Little Britain, and Eyes Down and ooh I hate you butler..give us a twirl Anthea..I want that one.." Rolling Eyes

I don't agree with you because 'hardly anyone has watched them' - that judges them overrated.

It tells you that fortunately there are some adventurous writers, producers, broadcasters etc. out there that make great shows that don't have to appeal to the masses; shows that require a little bit of thought or imagination to "get them" and enjoy them. High ratings don't necessarily make good quality, thought provoking, lasting television.

Sarcastic person aren't you. There is no need to start any petitions at all to get the programmes axed I have said are overrated. Most of them are comedies which either wind up themselves after two or three series in a natural way or they get axed altogether after two or three series without creating petitions at all. Numerous shows starring Robson Green and Ross Kemp have flopped over the years as well without creating petitions to get them axed. I know when I need to create a petition to get something axed altogether because bosses wouldn't dream of axing it thats why they need a push to get their bloody fingers out.

Look mate, go and stand in the middle of your local highstreet with a clipboard wearing a bright jacket....and ask passers by what they think of today's TV. We are not interested in your petitions ok?
