What's the deal with ratings?? Big Brother gets 400 million viewers??? and????? thats 400 million very stupid people.



On a serious note, what is the all time highest rating for something in UK tv history?? anyone know that

What was this? Why wwas it on both channels? I can't recall any important royal events in '69... surely you meant to type the moon landing?!

It was a documentary about the Royal Family, hence the name. It replaced the Queen's Speech that year.

The Royal Family was a documentary looking at the real lives of the Windsors. It was the first time that anyone had seen the Royal Family doing anything other than there formal duties and is widely thought to be the spark which ignited the media frenzy that the modern Royals now endure. The Queen holds the copyright of the film and is very reluctant to allow any clips from it to be re shown.
In 1969 it was shown in June on BBC1 and repeated a week later on ITV. The Queen decided not to record a Christmas message that year as she felt her family had had enough exposure by then.
