Don't you think programmes like only fools and horses should clear of the schedules for a few years how many times can g.o.ld. replay it it was a top comedy in its prime not just this possibly many others like friends programmes that just get repeated over and over without being taken off air for a while . what do u think?

Don't you think programmes like Only Fools and Horses should clear off the schedules for a few years? How many times can Gold replay it? It was a top comedy in it's prime. Not just this, possibly many others like Friends, programmes that just get repeated over and over without being taken off air for a while. What do u think?

So don't watch OFAH or Friends then.
Problem is solved, is it not?
Just because it's on air doesn't mean you have to watch it.

Anyone else think there is far too much sport on Sky Sports too. Can't they show something else for a change? Wink

Yes, but one could argue that by hogging the schedules, such programmes are stifling other lesser known shows that don't see the light of day any more. I can think of several US sitcoms, such as Cheers, Seinfeld, Roseanne, Golden Girls, Married with Children, Cosby Show etc., that haven't been on British television in years. However, other shows like Friends, Frasier, King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, Two and a Half Men, The Simpsons - however good they are - have never been off air in what seems like decades! Maybe if the broadcasters rested these shows for a while, other stuff could be given a chance?

The other thing I find annoying is not only are the same shows repeated ad nauseum, but in many cases it's the same episodes that get repeated. That gets very tiresome indeed.

Is there anyway of knowing who currently holds to the broadcast rights to stuff that hasn't been shown for ages, eg Classic Doctor Who pre 1989/1996(was UK Gold) rather than New Doctor Who post 2005, the various ITV classic sitcoms shown by Plus, but not repeated by ITV3, eg the 'Doctor' series, 'Mr Digby Darling'(Plus only showed series 1 I think?), 'The Dustbinmen'(Again only one series 'Plus' ed!)?

In defence of GOLD, back when it was still UKTV Gold they tended to stick to the same 'classic' comedy shows all the time with little variation - basically Porridge, Open All Hours and Only Fools and Horses.

They have snuck some lesser-seen series into the schedules since the rebrand. Just the other day I noticed they've been repeating a couple of John Sullivans other sitcoms, Just Good Friends and Dear John in the early mornings.

The OP may have committed multiple grammar crimes, but was at least correct in not using an apostrophe there.

I think there a high chance there will not be a lot of people watching Gold all day on a saturday, Comedy centrel does the same some times and it's a 4 hour loop

I presume by "British television" you mean terrestrial TV.
Paramount Comedy, in its various guises, has shown most of those you mention.
While I appreciate it's beside the point, a lot of the archive stuff is now available on DVD. Cosby (partially) and Married to quote but two.

Yes but every commercial channel has to get bums on seats, so to speak. Friends airs day in and day out on E4, the channel's biggest ratings grabber long-term. Although the airings of Glee and The Inbetweeners have ranked higher, the latter can't be aired before 9pm! The Simpsons is also a ratings grabber, even if it is butchered on Channel 4.
