YET the online copy missing out Grampian...

cyberdude
Saw someone reading this on the beach the other day and was going to post, but you beat me to it.

Which network programmes are credited to Grampian in the article. I remember seeing the logo on a few 70s/80s programmes, but I mainly associate it with sex education and religious programmes for schools.
A very nice article - would it be true to say Westward were the "friendliest but least professional" regional broadcaster? Tyne Tees were particularly clunky, but friendly faces disguised the joins somewhat.

No it wouldn't be true. Both Westward and TSW after them were very professional but not stoic nor staid. The friendliness was a stylistic choice.

Westward and TSW were very professional and specialised in grooming their audiences. They did this well before marketing consultants were born. The wabbit being key to this.

Add Channel to that list, with Oscar Puffin.

Also,
I find it very hard to read an article about the old days of producing quality television from the Daily Express, whose owner also owned a UK television network for a while, and sucked out the programming quality and budget..
..and Viacom are still trying to clear up the mess.

He still does own some TV channels doesn't he?
5 did quite well under him I thought, certainly a lot better than his newspapers have. The Express has been stripped to the bone over the years -chronically under resourced and little read
Odd hook for that article - the anniversary of the start of the first 7 day a week ITV station!?

Desmond doesn't own any TV channels any more, he even sold the porn channels.
I agree C5 started to become a much better channel under Desmond and has only flourished under Viacom.
