I have just been looking through my free tv guide that came with the newspapers today and realised the huge amount of programming that ITV1 Wales are showing instead of the normal ITV1 service:-

Sunday
15:00 - Never To Be Forgotten
17:30 - Wild About Wales

Monday
15:00 - Welsh Cafes
23:00 - Chosen

Tuesday
15:00 - Welsh Cafes
19:30 - Welsh Pirates
23:00 - Big Night Out

Wednesday
15:00 - Welsh Cafes

Thursday
15:00 - Welsh Cafes
19:30 - Childhood In Wales
23:00 - Here's Your Obituary
23:30 - Soccer Night Wales
00:00 - Stories From The Street

Friday
15:00 - Welsh Cafes

Total regional programming this week equals EIGHT hours - that is excluding the regional news which must surely be around FIVE hours a week?

I wonder how the presentation will be affected on ITV1 Wales during ITV Day - will all end credits not feature the coming next graphics and will idents be different aswell?

PS do a lot of the programmes actually require the word 'welsh' or 'Wales' in the title?

Yes ITV Wales do appear to be opting out a lot recently, however it does vary and some weeks we get hardly any opt outs so I think it is an average across the year.

However the English ITV regions are showing 5 non news regional progs this week (2.5 hours) which is a lot more than they usually show.

As for ITV Day we will have to see what happens at 3pm tommorow but id imagine we will get an ITV Day Wales ident as usual, and nothing over the end credits like we never do on regional progs.

They seem to be the only region still doing their own Soccer Night programme.

A reminder for all of the licences...

For most of Channel 3 licencees under ITV plc...
Weekly Averages
News 5:30
Current Affairs 0:26
Other 2:34
Total 8:30

Wales have a higher quantity...
News 5:30
Current Affairs 0:47
Other 3:43
Total 10:00

Others have varying amounts, but this quantity on average is what we as viewers should expect.

Here's a question that I'm sure someone has asked before, why is it that a regional programme never gets repeated?

Hasnt that changed now though? I thought non news regional progs had been reduced to 1 hour a week or something for the English regions?

Well id say the reason regional progs dont get repeated much is because they dont have enough regional slots to show repeats in. However often on ITV1 Wales we get a repeat on a Sunday afternoon or at 12 midnight on a Thursday.

Not quite "never" round here, though that's true WITHIN the region.

Any programmes about the West/Westcountry border area tend to get shown in one region and then repeated in the other region.

Yet another crafty scheme to save Charlie Allen a couple of shillings.

I noticed at the start of the regional program on ITV1 Wales this afternoon they had a normal ITV1 Wales ident , not an ITV Day one. I was surprised by this as the announcer promoted it as being on ITV Day, and although this is a regional series its been commissioned for daytime.

Regional programmes are not shown to get ratings, they're shown to make up the number of hours required. Repeats do not go towards the quota, therefore it's pointless to repeat them.

With 5 ITV channels to fill, many regional programms (particulatrly documentry or lifestyle shows) could find repeat slots on ITV3/4 or the News Channel. With this in mind, perhaps a new sport would be to spot programmes counting toward the regional quota, obviously made with a dual purpose of filling hours on secondary channels?

I'm not quite sure what came over me, but I actually managed to sit through most of the epic from the cafe in Caerphilly.

An "interesting" programme, to say the least.

Didn't that presenter chappie used to introduce the programmes, once upon a time? What's his name? Philip Banks, or something?

Cue Banksey........

Anyway, I don't think I've ever seen a regional programme repeated on ITV1/2/3 but if it happens surely that is a good thing? I know the number of hours and figures and things don't really add up but if it means 'regional' programming (in whatever guise) making a network station surely that is a good thing?

I would really love to see some programmes from other regions but as I don't have a SKY¦Box I can't view the other regions.

Does any region make any (decent) programmes anymore that could be shown on a national basis?

Um, slightly...OK, totally off topic, but, can I ask, what kind of programme is this? Shocked

It doesn't sound like a very appealing piece of television...
