Actually interesting to note that a lot of tabloid/glossy/lowest common denominator style magazines and productions ran with the "what happens when the Queen dies" story in light of today's developments. Including publications such as Ok! Magazine for some reason.

Rather than linking to the Metro, a free tacky publication that nobody in their right mind would pay for anyway which is why its given away free on public transport, I'd much rather link to this slightly more classy article from Business Insider with more pictures:

But yes, "Viewer OUTRAGE when The Chase is AXED" is pretty much the going line for The Express. And the Mail. And maybe The Daily Star too. "How dare the Queen dies between 5-6pm interrupting the final chase." Smile

Gotta love how they embedded that YouTube video of Peter Sissons announcing the death of the Queen Mother. Absolutely huge video player for a postagestamp sized, converted RealVideo file

I completely just read that as Peter Simon announcing the death of the Queen Mother and rushed on there hoping for some Bid-Up gold!

I was up already and none of the network news organizations mentioned (or posted) anything about the story until about 4:00 AM ET and then it appeared to be in the B block as just a quick "an announcement is expected today" type of thing. However I saw that many west coast stations led with or reported the story for their 11 PM newscasts (7AM UK) - something expected because it was wildly trending worldwide on social media and its sweeps.

As to the 3AM meeting thing this story initiallly took tracks around 10 or 11 PM ET which would be 3 or 4 AM UK time.

This is worth sharing. An edition of the Radio Times focusing on the coverage of the death of Princess Diana.

Absolutely fascinating. That's a great read.

Peter Sissons: 'I don't own a black tie'. Someone should have told him to buy one then…

And five years later (during the Queen Mother's death) it would cause an uproar.

This entire incident sums up the era we are now in with rumours and fake news. One thing the Americans wouldn't have known is that the Queen must be alive and well as she was having tea and cakes with the PM only yesterday.

Do people not die suddenly anymore these days, then? A massive advancement in medical science.

In my book, that's still the best way to die. YMMV.
