It was painfully unfunny. The setting needed to be updated, nobody operates a corner shop any more where all the goods are behind a counter. Putting Granville in a more modern setting would have more comedic effect. I see no reason for a full revival in the present form.
9.5m viewers is enough of a reason - in the present form.
There are still shops like that one around here and around Yorkshire.
They could include a rivalry with a more modern grocery shop, if they want to address the idea of shops like this still existing. Living in London, I have never been in a shop like that in my life!
Well I live in Doncaster myself, albeit the other side of Doncaster from where Open All Hours was filmed and set, and I must say that I don't think I have ever entered a shop like that. I am sure that we do have independent shops, but I can't think of one where the goods are behind the counter.

I do know of a shop like that, its closed down a few years ago. It all depends on the local support.
My local shop down here in the westcountry is pretty much like that, though if anything more cluttered.
It was lovely to hear Roy Clarke lines again; it's good to know that at an advanced age and after a very long and unbelievably prolific career he's still on form.
Something that I don't think has been mentioned, the documentary that went out on Friday lunchtime was made by BBC Yorkshire, which is slightly unusual as Leeds isn't meant to be a network production centre.
Although most of the 9m who did watch it stated how poor it was. Hopefully though it will benefit from being a series - they'll have to actually think about having a plot in each episode.
