Well does all this not show how comited the BBC are to their regions unlike another national broadcaster.

I think many people are missing the point here!

The issue I'm raising is not so much with the Wales/NI game - but with every single bloody England game! Fair enough if the BBC want an English biased version in England, but the rest of the country should get something neutral (or even better, someone who'll reflect the views of the Welsh, Scottish and Irish as England get knocked out on penalties yet again!).

They manage it perfectly for Rugby - home nations play each other with one commentary team and one analysis team, usually comprising of one person from each country.

And another point - talking to people today alot of people are very annoyed that on the network coverage of NI v Wales, most of half-time was given over to talking about England!

But would viewers not in England want to sacrafice the A team of Lineker, Hansen etc to watch a cobbled together B team just to avoid the England bias?

If some Scots/Welsh/NI with chips on their shoulders get Shaudenfraude from watching England defeated then that is not the BBC's problem. They are the British Broadcasting Corporation and are quite right to express support for British teams.

Going off on a tangent somewhat, has anyone seen the off-air shot of Alan Hansen when Northern Ireland scored against England? He put his hands up to his head in dismay....!

What was all that about? An Scotsman supporting England? Surely not? Wink

That's what's years at the BBC have done to him! Brainwashed!

Alan Hansen is paid by the BBC to be an Englander ... he even says "we" when talking about England ... something no member of the BBC should say - it irritated the hell out of me with Graeme Le Saux saying "we" every second - any pretence of neutrality out of the window.

Like Graeme was ever an integral part of the England football team anyway!

Anyway they've qualified now - so we non-Anglos can laugh schadenfreud-like at their comical inability to get anywhere in tournaments.

That's another thing that annoys me - they win and qualify, and the BBC still moan about them for half an hour after the game!

I'm glad they've made it - I can look forward to them being knocked out of the now next June!

I'd rather they just didn't qualify.....then we wouldn't have to put up with the "Aren't we great/We'll win the World Cup/Memories of 66" comments from now until next summer! Mad

Indeed, its that mentality that gets the rest of the UK's backs up.
And it happens even when England arent playing!

Welcome ladles and jellyspoons to the official TV Forum Anti-England Football thread Smile

Anyhoo I reckon Poland will lose tonight 2-1. Wales will win 2-0 against the Azeri, Ulster will lose 2-0 to Austria and Ireland will draw with Switzerland 0-0. (Check for edits to this post at 10pm!!!)

BTW are ALL England home games still on the BBC next year? And if so, why can't S4C have the Wales games as Sky seem to have abandoned their bilingual commentary thing?
