Of course BBC1 playout is in the same building as The One Show's studio.

Technically not the case. Whilst they share a common reception - they are separate buildings (and have separate fire alarm systems - though they are linked...)

Red Bee Media are in The Broadcast Centre, The One Show are in The Energy Centre.

(And the fire alarm and evacuation was only for The Energy Centre - Red Bee Media weren't evacuated)

Might be interesting to see what turns up here as and when:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00yzf9b/The_One_Show_23_02_2011/

Every time the One Show gets cut short for whatever reason, it takes forever and a day to turn up on the iPlayer than it would if it were an episode of the normal length.

Now appeared.

Strange before you play it, it shows the running time as usual - 00:00/30:00. Then once you play it's out of 18:18. Ends at when they hand over to the VT.

It's only showing up to 18:18 now. I'm surprised there's no notice or anything explaining why it was cut short. Not everybody might've known It didn't come back.

An astonishing amount of black and silence to air before the holding slide and then no music whatsoever, a couple of nervous sounding and uninformative apolgies before a filler. At least they found a filler though - several instances of programmes ending early in the recent past have led to a barrage of posts on TVF about RedBee's lack of filler material - and the fact that in the past they've simply filled with as many trails as possible (sometimes running them twice) then thrown to the next programme early.

This kind of thing has always happened though. Read this page http://www.tech-ops.co.uk/pres/page2.html for some memories of breakdowns from one of the network directors who worked in the manual control rooms, the Network Transmission Area (Analogue BBC1 and 2) and the Digital Transission Area (where the photo is taken at the top of the page). Enjoy...

That BBC England clip only works for 5 seconds!

Please address all complaints to Metropol.

They all worked fine last night, you sure you just didn't give it enough time? There is a large amount of black before BBC1 kick back in.

Thanks for that, I thought that the Energy Centre was just all the plant and machinery.

I believe that those on shift in the Broadcast Centre were preparing to evacuate though

Actually it's 616. Stephen Fry said so.

they are fine someone was making tea and the micowave set it off.

The One Show have just claimed it was a baked potato - and even went to great lengths to have a member of the crew playing with a microwave after they claimed a memo was sent out following last night's incident.

[offtopic] I interpreted SteveK's comment about 666 getting you fire to be a joke about dialling the firey brimstone world of Hell, what with 666 being the number of the Beast / Devil and everything. My response alluded to an episode of QI which indicated that research showed that in some of the early versions of the book of Revelation, the number is actually 616; the answer "six hundred three-score and six" earned Johnny Vaughan a forfeit. As an interesting aside, a bus route in Russia was changed from 666 because it was thought to be unlucky......to 616.[/offtopic]
