It's also worth noting that just because the EBU provide satellite space / fibre capacity - this is independent of any rights deal the EBU may have. Just like BBC studios being used to make ITV shows, third parties can rent EBU capacity for their own content.

As well as sport they also often provide connectivity at news events (sometimes connectivity, some times fully equipped facilities you can book slots at). Even if you're an EBU member you still pay, and it can be very expensive. At one recent set piece news event at the EBU IP connectivity (via satellite) was too expensive, so the BBC didn't use it.

Don't the ebu feed the f1 world feed its reported each week on satelliweb?

I believe the EBU provide satellite (and probably fibre) backhaul facilities for a world feed, but most high-end rights holders (C4, Sky UK, Sky Deutschland etc.) present from site and fibre their own programmes back.

Some use EBU fibre for their unilateral feeds - the BBC's coverage came in via fibre to London.

The EBU distribute the world feeds (there are several including one of 'Red button' style extras) too, via satellite. There was (probably still is, I'm not been across how it works for a while) also a back up satellite feed containing a multiplex of EBU member unilaterals.

I've no idea how it works for Sky UK, who aren't EBU members but presumably they downlink the World feeds from the EBU and do their own thing from the track for their coverage.

Ok so what will the BBC do for the Olympics, will there be a 3w feed like the Euros because that was excellent to watch from an outsiders point of view of how it all comes together.

Quite surprised at that considering they held back for Glastonbury and Wimbledon using the excuse of wanting to push the connected red button service instead (although they don't push it at all - it's very much mentioned as an afterthought in the live coverage). Also with reduced coverage ahead in the future didn't think they'd want to make too big a deal of what they had to offer this time to the audience which is most likely to be hit by the streams moving to Eurosport. They're a bit vague though about the offering - just say a mixture of 8 SD and HD streams. Presumably they'll be no simulcasts as for anything on that stream you need Freeview HD.

Also with the recent revamp to the red button splash screen it's not that obvious how you get to the broadcast channel stream - on the old service it used to be in the box on the far left but I'm not sure anything does go straight to 601 on the new service - everything I've watched via it has gone to the web stream.

So just to confirm, Can Discovery show as much events live as they want live while the BBC is restricted to 2 live events under the new contract and will Discovery/BBC be able to show a final like the men's 100m live at the same time?

Correct. Disocovery / Eurosport can show everything live and on demand. There is no restriction on what the BBC can show live on its one linear channel and one stream. Anything not shown live (because they were showing something else) can be shown without any specific delay. Anything broadcast on either can be shown online- either live or on demand after broadcast.

They may have "checked the OTT box" previously but it's been unchecked in recent weeks which has been a huge problem. Certainly reduced my US Open viewing to practically nothing, especially with the app issues as well, and I'll be cancelling after the final tomorrow.

Still heard nothing from OFCOM or the DCMS regarding my complaint but credit to the BBC they were very quick to respond, and not just with a generic palming off of the issue either. I got considered responses from the DGs office and the BBC legal team obviously backing their own positition but makes such a difference when you feel like your complaint has at least been heard, even if it results in no change.
