Seems to be a bit of 'messing about' opting in & out.

Bearing in mind BBC ONE & BBC NEWS are practically simulcasting from midnight onwards, surely it would have been easier for Sue Thearle to say 'Now on BBC ONE & the BBC NEWS CHANNEL, its time for Olympic Sportsday'.

I suppose the same will happen at five to 1, BBC ONE will do Weatherview while the NC will broadcast its own forecast, then they will all join up at 1 (with World) again for the rest of the night.

Why couldn't BBC ONE start the overnight simulcast at midnight officially, as it just seems daft this way.

Technically the simulcast doesn't happen at midnight, as Olympic Sportsday is an HD show, not an SD News Channel production. i.e. the show isn't originated by the BBC News Channel gallery and isn't getting to Red Bee / BBC One from a News Channel gallery. (I believe Sport News are making it, with cameras from the BBC Sport Olympic studio fibred up to a Salford gallery)

The News Channel are also simulcasting Olympic Sportsday on the News Channel, but Red Bee pres on BBC One are still running separately at this point. I suspect for all sorts of playout related reasons it makes sense to bill it as a separate programme and have a separate EPG entry.

Also - if people want to record Olympic Sportsday in HD, it needs a separate EPG entry on BBC One to allow this.

Obviously the words spoken by the presenter could ignore this - these are just technical reasons why the simulcast doesn't happen at this point.

thegeek reported that the BBC Three logo was also on screen. Hence why I asked which channel. Neither logo answered my other question either, what time did it happen?

it was about 1330 on Avago.

One of these statements is incorrect.

I see a battalion has been drafted in to sit in the Olympic Family seats at the 'North Greenwich Arena'! Looks even worse than the empty seats tbh.

While we're talking about the flipping graphics, I just want to put a bit of love for the BBC Sport graphics. As someone who doesn't watch sport much, and is used to the plainness of the news ones, the look and particularly the animation of the whole package is great - particularly the 3D headlines stuff.

I thought the overkill of highlights round ups last night (and presumably every night) was a bit annoying, especially as they all ran with the MOTD style format of the viewers not knowing the results.

Including the news programmes, by the time Olympic Sportsday came on, that was the 4th round up of the days events. I doubt anyone didn't know the Mens Road Race outcome by that point.

Why on earth are the News Channel simulcasting. Couldn't they maybe give us some news instead
