I really liked John at the rowing but I really don't rate him for some reason at the Athletics, personally I wish Hazel Irvine had got that role when it was up for grabs a few years ago.

Absolutely agree - he was fine a couple of years ago on the Europeans and generally does a good job on the few live athletics events he covers each year, but something has just not clicked this time with Inverdale and the athletics. Kind of feels that when he presents rugby and rowing (and tennis of course - he was excellent on the French Open) it's a passion - but with athletics it's just a job.

It's an interesting observation you make. I have witnessed John preparing for previous sports programming and his preparation is quite intense - pacing around, up and down, up and down, reading up and ingesting material. I wouldn't have thought he would have regarded it as 'just a job', but it's interesting from your experience you haven't rated him this time round.

On the other hand I suspect the only thing Lineker reads is the menu the sports runner pushes under his nose - but I'm digressing.

Clare and Jake have been the undoubted stars for me and I would much rather Clare to be the main host at the swimming/Equestrian than doing links in the studio. I think it's a bit of a waste of her talents.

Yes, she was great at whatever sport they threw at her. A bit of a shame she couldn't do the rowing as well the swimming I think she'd have been great over at Eton Dorney

Agree with Brekkie Shocked there was no need for Matt Baker or Mishal[even though she was V good] to be presenters in the main studio.

Well they had to have someone in the studio, so who would you have had? I thought Matt Baker was great too, maybe a bit over enthusiastic at times but that felt totally in place. He sounds very at home in front of a commentary mic, it's just a shame that he's limited to only one sport.

I wasn't too sure about the Blue Peter girl over the last couple of days, a bit too high pitched and excited. Although she was a good choice for the BMX

Me neither, although I wonder if that's because he was next to Colin Jackson and Denise Lewis who are much more lively and less serious than Steve Redgrave, therefore he seemed to stand out more as the serious one

I thought he was excellent at the rowing, though he did slip talking to the disappointed silver medallists.

They were clearly upset, he says, "I'll let you go", but then immediately throws a follow up question, "by the way, what happened at the start ?"

You can see Redgrave giving him a 'FFS' look at 1:16 in this clip:-

after Mo Farah's victory there are clips on the BBC site of presenters and pundits watching the race in two different studios, thought there was just the one studio overlooking the park

They showed the commentator, in the commentary box; and the pundits in the stadium pres point.

The BBC have a presentation point in most of the venues, in addition to their regular commentary position.

I am absolutely dreading tonight. Promises to be a wonderful, emotional evening, but my goodness . . . what are we all doing to do tomorrow?

Really will be a black Monday tomorrow morning. Mishal Hussain's slot this morning was excellent reviewing the whole thing though (once you've fast forwarded through Dave!) - just really hope "Inspire a Generation" proves a reality, not just for Rio but beyond as it's been £9bn well spent just to lift the nation over the last three weeks - well, three months including the torch relay.

I just saw the BBC credits, it uses this song... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G20y8NAW3VQ and finishes on a shot of the moon.

It is in the standard BBC Sport credit style with clips of the Olympics and the credits in small text appearing every so often around the pictures. It goes on for bloody ages, but at least they didn't use that miserable Elbow track.

Sorry if this isn't the right thread but I see Sky News have stuck Andrew Wilson etc on top of a roof near Tower Bridge... he can hardly hear anything and that, doubled with the fact they can't show any footage.. it all seems a bit weird.

They were there for the opening cermony I assume its because of the closing, they managed to get information and show the speed boat section of the final leg of the torch and the Tower Bridge all lit up

This is the montage and credits for the Red Button/Olympics channels which is currently being shown at the end of each live stream. There will be a different credits montage at the end of the main BBC One coverage (and possibly at the end of the BBC Three coverage).

EDIT: incidentally, the BBC Olympics channels which have finished with live events are now showing a 'Thank you for watching' graphic.

I know what you mean, but 'chin up' because we still have the Paralympics to look forward to, so let's all treat the time in-between as a temporary breathing space.
