Is it necessary for BBC Three to abruptly crash out of the cycling for a load of trailers and a 60 seconds update ?

Trailers, no but they want to, 60 Seconds, yes as part of service license.

Idiot Freeview question: Is 302 actually on, because so far I've only seen it as the text caption. Is it only on between certain hour?

I haven't seen it. But they studio could just throw to it and then they should a couple of trailers after.

302 active from 7pm only (taking normal BBC THREE bandwidth)

Right now none of BBC1, BBC3/HD or 301/HD are showing what the Radio Times suggests they should be.

BTW, are the BBC using their multiscreen on Sky at all just to highlight the main events or are all viewers having to go through the EPG/red button to find events?

The usual Sports Multiscreen seems to have been removed (it was there yesterday).

It is still there (page 3001), showing the Opening Ceremony and Football Highlights at the moment.

I'm not sure what the point of pressing red for the Olympic coverage is when all the channels are on the EPG anyway. Pressing red was always just an inconvenient way to get to extra streams, now you can go straight to them via the EPG (not to mention record, set reminders and rewind them which you can't do when pressing red).

They seem to have seen sense and removed the press red app on Freeview, it didn't work on my TV anyway, there was no audio apart from on the channel that you initially pressed red on.

I think with 24 channels the red button (if organised correctly) is probably easier to navigate rather than 3 pages of channels on the EPG in two hour blocks (have Sky created an Olympics section in the EPG?). It doesn't help either that sport moves from channel to channel rather than each sport being assigned a specific channel and sticking with it.

As for Freeview - the press red app is still there with the big yellow blur you have to remove yourself and a poor generic service with links that often don't go where they should (TV Guide goes to Football Tables for example). They really should have at least done a tailored service for the games - indeed with the limited video streams the text service on Freeview is more important than ever and for things like the road race it would be useful to easily get the latest standing, which you can find online on the video player but nowhere on the text service.

I'm finding it much easier to use the red button than the EPG. Nice and easy to quickly switch to the channels with GB on show and it's easier to see what's on offer in general. I don't use live rewind or reminders and I'm not going to be recording anything so I don't mind not having access to those features.

One would assume, it's easier to just tell viewers to press red than explain all the different channels numbers on the different platforms as well.

I meant the EPG on the screen while you are watching television, going in to the TV guide is just as daft as pressing red for the reasons you mention.

I just saw a feed of someone at Conventry for the Womans football event from Canadian broadcaster CTV (I could tell by the logo on her microphone) waiting to do something. The BBC cut the feed and put up the menu with the dreary music after a while.

EDIT : Feed for KBS coming up here...

No need at all for the breaks on BBC3 - the BBC Trust really shouldn't be trusted with television. They've basically said BBC3 can go 24/7 but have to show ads. No need at all to break away for 60 Seconds during the day - no reason why they can't let the presenter do a 60 second update of Olympic news at relevent breaks in the action.

Whoops! The BBC studio talkback is going out on BBC1. We know Mark Cavendish came 11th now, plus a dig a Bradley Wiggins... Oh dear oh dear!
