On BBC Two Sue Barker stepped outside to allow Gary Lineker to settle into the set for BBC One, and promptly received loud chants of 'Sue Barker, we love you'.

Kay Burley can only be jealous.

Why? Because she knocked the Go Compare guy?

Sue Barker's slot was ridiculously short on BBC1 this afternoon, she came on half an hour late at 4:30pm because Jake's bit ran over what with the gold medal in the Cycling Time Trial. She then introduced the Gymnastics and wasn't seen again until the coverage was moving to BBC2 just before 6pm!

Does she have a bigger role when the Athletics kicks in next week?

I agree and this just shows how silly the BBC One presenter shifts are. Perhaps they'll have her in the stadium next week a la Clare in the Aquatics centre? But then the main studio wouldn't be getting used.

Talking of aquatics, Ian Thorpe is now sitting with Clare and Mark rather than Gary.

Err - because she's great? She's a bit of a legend isn't she? Maybe they were fans of Hacker Time...

And it's a much better watch isn't it?

It never made much sense before really, I guess it was to keep Gary on screen more than anything.

Was Ian Thorpe ever seen inside the aquatics centre (prior to tonight obviously)? If not, I'd be thinking along the "accreditation issues" line.

Not that I can remember!

I think the only reason he's not there tonight is because Lineker had other people to speak to.

Yes, he was there with Clare Balding a few days ago during the morning. Think it was Monday morning if I'm not mistaken.

All the coverage so far has been getting, a BBC Presneter and then a presenter and guest at the event- John Inverdale at the Rowing alongside Sir Steve Redgrave, Clare Balding at the aquatics centre alongside Mark Foster, Sue will likely do the Athletics alongside Colin Jackson or the like. Matt Baker has been doing this at the gymnastics as well.

No, unfortunately not. Sue will remain in her 16:00-19:00 slot for the duration of the Games. John Inverdale will be the presenter in the Olympic Stadium for the athletics - as has been advertised for many months now. Inverdale is now the BBC's chief athletics presenter. Jonathan Edwards will present from the stadium for the morning heats.

I agree that Sue is being criminally underused during these Games. In terms of on-screen time, she's probably appearing less than anyone else, considering a lot of her slot has been spent showing gymnastics and will be spent, from tomorrow, with Jake Humphrey at the cycling. I still don't understand why she's not doing the 19:00-22:30 slot in the studio. I've lost count of the number of times Lineker has twisted the conversation around to football - even with Bradley Wiggins tonight. Sue is ten times the presenter Lineker is - and so much more knowledgeable on a multi-sport level.

Sorry, rant over . . .
