As for the BBC News coverage - haven't watched any myself but a consequence of the boundaries between BBC News and BBC Sport blurring in covering the games. Perhaps shorter news-only bulletins would do the job better, but really at the moment the Olympics is the news and TV isn't doing anything the papers aren't.

No! I disagree with that, the Olympics is not the news at the moment. The news is what's going on in Syria. The Eurozone crisis. And undoubtedly many more stories that would have filled the news bulletins on any ordinary day.

The Olympics is only news to the British audience in two ways; firstly if Team GB wins any medals; and secondly if it has implications for transport/security etc. Covering the actual Games themselves should not be featuring so heavily in BBC News bulletins, especially when it's on practically every BBC channel all day every day.

How many people can possibly be finding these constant Olympics news updates useful? I can only speak from my own experience, but I either watch the live BBC Sport coverage; or if I want to find out what's happened, I either look online or on BBCi. When I tune in for the news, I want the news. It's way OTT at the moment and is stifling many other more serious issues and stories happening around the world while the Olympics are on.

You can't just generalise by saying the Olympics is the news at the moment. It's only the news because the media is obsessed with it.

I agree - the BBC Sport website is just a mess at the moment.

And the BBC showing now they can get three people in their spot at the Aquatics Centre, so no reason Ian Thorpe couldn't be there.

I prefer him with Gary in studio, their awkward chemistry is highly amusing. Laughing

I'll put my hand up and say that I'm actually in favour of the news channel's coverage of the Olympics at the moment.

They provide updates not just on the games but also on the security, and other news about London 2012, and they cut to the most important events live like the gymnastics team (initially) winning the silver medal. Therefore I've just had BBC News running on all day. And of course they cover other news stories as well.

Off topic - but just thought I'd throw in my thoughts on the Olympics so far in general. And my overall feeling is, 'what was all the fuss about?'

I've been to football at Coventry and Old Trafford, the Hyde Park Opening Ceremony Concert, Wimbledon, the Women's Road Race on the Mall, Rowing, and Swimming Finals. No travel delays, no security delays. In fact I made it from my seat in the Aquatics Centre to St Pancras in 40 minutes this evening. Wonderful, wonderful experience. Friendly, welcoming, helpful volunteers and security staff (especially the armed forces).

The down side to attending events is, of course, missing out on the television coverage. But I have been enjoying Gabby Logan's programme which has been a great mix of highlights, chat and live inserts. And wasn't it great to see Hazel reading the news on Olympic Breakfast? Great stuff . . .

Also was nice to be able to get so close to the BBC Sport studios in Olympic Park. Didn't think they would be quite as 'exposed' to the general public.

Happy Olympics everyone.

You lucky thing. How was that Hyde Park concert - the idea of these concerts to mark the opening of the games seemed rather strange to me considering that is what the ceremony did, and surely any Olympic fan would rather watch the Opening Ceremony than listen to Duran Duran.

So John McEnroe was just on BBC Olympics Tonight wearing a pretty hideous NBC branded hooded tracksuit top.

Maybe he was there for NBC as well?

Yes they more or less said that. Apparently his first Olympics, perhaps NBC don't want to lose him entirely considering Wimbledon is with ESPN now who he's also been working for.

Have really gone off McEnroe over the last couple of years at the tennis, especially this year having had the comparison of Jim Courier at ITV a couple of weeks earlier who was just superb.

And considering they've seem to have used Clare Balding more at the Aquatics Centre to get some analysis on the Equestrian than the swimming perhaps in the mornings at least they'd have been better off sending her to Greenwich Park and just having the swimming fronted from the studio.

Anyone catch the gymnastics replays on the vault which do a freezeframe with gymnast mid-air with the camera then moving round the airbourne gymnast and blending into another shot from a camera on another side of the arena. (Think mid-air kung fu Matrix style).

I saw it on BBC One this evening (The live vid feeds ends at 10pm, and the shot isn't in the gymnastics feed replay online.)

It was pretty mental. I'd ask how it's done, but you'd proably have to have seen it before you could begin to comment. Impressive stuff for just a replay, if a over a little too quick.

The full 2:40 version of the titles were used at start of BBC Two coverage just now. First time I've seen this despite seeing quite a few junctions.
