So the build up is over, the ceremony is done and coverage is underway - though no sign of the Olympic flame. And we've already hit a situation where BBC3 and BBC 301 are showing the same thing.

Is Jill Douglas involved at all - Tanni Grey Thompson doesn't seem the obviouis choice to cover the cycling road races and with Jake Humphrey leading the track cycling coverage it would be a real shame if Jill gets nothing more than a reporting/interviewing role considering her vast experience in covering the sport for the BBC.

(And one hour into BBC coverage and just one rowing race shown. Far too much chat so far!)

I've already noticed gaps in the best seat categories. It looks poor on television. Noticed the same at the Opening Ceremony last night with the lower tier on the 100m straight half empty during the athletes parade.

A few gaps at the Aquatics Centre, though I don't know if they're public seat or the seats usually reserved for swim teams.

All a bit choppy on BBC1 this morning - kind of inevitable on the first day but stupid IMO to have Ian Thorpe in the studio when they've got Claire and Mark at the Aquatics centre, sometimes just talking about what Claire and Mark just talked about. Mark Foster also made the schoolboy error of revealing the result of the event they're just about to show.

Commentator on the Road Cycling just asked 'Can you hear me?' twice. I could hear him, I don't know who he was talking to though.

I wonder when the first comments will occur that we are not exactly 'Not missing any minute' on the extra streams. We aren't missing sports, BUT we are missing action, in the Gymnastics we are only seeing one rotation group. not all of them. Similarly, not every court at Wimbledon is being shown.

The gymnastics could easily have six streams today - ridiculous how many streams there could be if absolutely everything was offered.

In a way it kind of reminds me of the whole "camera angle" thing with football which was offered and quickly dropped when interactive TV took off. There is so much on offer with the games it's actually a bit overwhelming. Essentially I'd like two things highlighted - Gold medal events and Brits competing. The flashback style feature online though is very useful.

BTW, are the BBC using their multiscreen on Sky at all just to highlight the main events or are all viewers having to go through the EPG/red button to find events?

The usual Sports Multiscreen seems to have been removed (it was there yesterday). You just press red and it comes up with a text based page with the most important events listed and then you can go through every single sport in an A to Z and see what else is available and when future events will begin. It really is one of the most useful red button services I've used in some time and doesn't half make you realise how long it's been since the rest of the red button service has seen any kind of innovation. It seems to be much faster than other red button services on Sky.

One annoying thing is that whilst it takes you directly to all the HD channels when you select a sport (including BBC1 I think) I doesn't do the same for BBC HD and takes you to BBC3 instead.

Would that be because BBC HD is showing 3D events as well as HD, so it's a "just incase" thing so that people without 3D don't end up on the 3D broadcast.

Well I turned BBC1 on at 8:55 saw the end of Olympic breakfast and then into the BBC1 coverage, but there was no sporting action and just chatting, so I've been watching on the Olympic channels via Sky and TV CatchUp. But also been on the BBC Olympics website using the 'Live Player' but it as I'm flicking through the feeds, now it says 'Operation Aborted- Corruption/ encoding Problem! Sad not good! I had to turn my iPad off and back on but I can't be doing that every hour! And the BBC Olympic website told iPad users that the full desktop site should be viewable via iPad an most andriod tablets.

It is still there (page 3001), showing the Opening Ceremony and Football Highlights at the moment.

I'm not sure what the point of pressing red for the Olympic coverage is when all the channels are on the EPG anyway. Pressing red was always just an inconvenient way to get to extra streams, now you can go straight to them via the EPG (not to mention record, set reminders and rewind them which you can't do when pressing red).

They seem to have seen sense and removed the press red app on Freeview, it didn't work on my TV anyway, there was no audio apart from on the channel that you initially pressed red on.

I think the 3D's most limited to the odd event and is almost always simulcasting BBC3. The 3D highlights show is at 11 once BBC3's coverage has finished.

They could always just change or remove the link when 3D content is on as they have just done for BBC1 which has been removed for the news.

In fact judging by the Radio Times the only 3D event is the athletics a week on Sunday at 8:30pm.
