Are they using the official olympic themed opener on CBC too? It is a beautiful and extremely overambitious little film. It's about 20-30 seconds long, with different 3D-figures doing winter sports on varoius Italian buildings and the theme tune features a female opera singer with a climax at the end.

The picture above looks like it could be the end of that film, with the CBC logo added. I have not seen the last three seconds of the film, since SVT (Sweden) has added their own animation at the end. I guess that film isn't shown on BBC, but I would be happy to see it on the Internet.

Re: Interactive

I can't find anything regarding the Winter Olympics, but this article about the Athens games says interactive services were available to a number of viewers in both the US and Canada for the 2004 Olympics.

Do you get any interactive coverage at all, with viewers able to choose what sports they watch?

It's a useful service BBCi offers here on most major sporting events - but the downside is that it's meant alot of the coverage has been dropped from terrestrial TV, especially in the mornings.

No. We don't have anything like a red button or something like that. The CBC has always had BIG studios on location in the IBC but not this time.

The one from Sydney in 2000 really stands out with that view of the harbour. Shame the CBC decided to stay on this side of the atlantic and probably will for 2008.

(CTV will probably do their coverage from the existing CTV Vancouver studios for 2010.)

Talking of the broadcasting centres, anyone know the plan for London 2012?

I'm pretty sure they are building it new for the games, but what will happen to it after the games?

Personally I'd put the BBC team in the old Big Breakfast house right next to the Olympic Stadium!

From the candidate file:

Quote:

After the Games the IBC (International Broadcast Centre) /MPC (Main Press Centre) will form the heart of a new creative industry legacy for east London, and will be developed into an inward investment centre to attract new
business, creating new jobs for the region. A data centre will
form the core of the facility which will attract creative media
industries and local entrepreneurs who will be provided with
managed studio space and other workspaces.

... which sounds like they haven't really decided what to do with it yet.

Incidentally, as I understand, the broadcasting centre is going to be right next to the Millennium Dome (ie. Millennium Pier and North Greenwich tube station) - masses of car parking space, room for a satellite compound etc.

Does anyone here live in the general olympic area? I'm just wondering if there's very much to look at yet - I'd quite like to go up to London at some point and have a look around - however guessing that its probably still something of a building site and that not all of the building work has yet started (plenty of compulsory orders presumably).

The IBC was originally to be at Pudding Mill Lane but it was announced in January that it was being moved to 'inside the Olympic Security Zone'. Wherever that is!!
