I see that they have those arm belts on with security ID that bouncers usually have on. If they are Met Police officers surely they would not need them, or is this due to them not being in uniform?

They're on duty, hence requiring their warrant cards. The arm bands hold these.

Ah, I assumed they were normal security (not police) because i've only ever seen security wear them, not police.

I think Police Officers always carry their warrant cards, but normal uniforms have somewhere specific to keep them. The uniforms they are wearing for the Torch Relay are presumably not designed for this...

I know a little bit about this Wink Wink

Yes, you are required to carry your warrant card with you at ll times, whether on or of duty.

This may be slightly off-topic but does this mean that serving police officers are not allowed to be nudists or go on strike?

Falmouth Business Improvement District are reporting £1.1M takings from visitors surrounding the short stop in the town yesterday.

The BBC2012 Twitter feed has a nice high quality Olympic Broadcaster logo:

I realise it's been around for ages but I do think the logo would look better without the lines between the graphics/text.

Sorry but this article says that officers don't have to carry their warrant cards off duty

Officers in Staffordshire Police are required to carry warrant cards at all times on and off duty - this is to prevent loss or theft of the card. Any officers who lose a warrant card are called before professional standards and could face dismissal for it. Only time it stays away from the officer is when they go abroad, it lives in a wooden filing cabinet in the sergeant's office for the duration of this. This is all subject to force policies though, the Met are the same as Staffs, West Mids and West Mercia though - so the above applies.

Normal uniform has the same place as civvies to keep your warrant card, it's called your pockets, obviously the MP-TRST need to display they're officers at all times for Olympic Security reasons and a lack of pockets. Warrants aren't a necessity for arrest mind, only searching. Under the Police Act and PACE officers have their full powers with or without indication they hold the office of constable.

The SIM cards won't be in the camera(s). It sounds like be a number of 3G routers bonded together

That is rather nice. Off topic but I do wish the BBC would change their weather astons - the graphics themselves are fine, but always though the Day/Time aston didn't look quite right.

The coverage on BBC Points West has been quite good so far. They have a helicopter out. I wonder what the Olympic Torch programme will cover as the torch relay seems to be over for the day (the feed has been lost on bbc.co.uk/2012 too).

I'm not sure how wise it is to have sports people presenting the programme. In the South East we are going to have Dame Kelly Holmes presenting. I don't know why. She breifly did the sports news on BBC South East Today a few years ago and she was terrible.

No break between BBC Points West and Olympic Torch: West. The presenters introduced John Inverdale who did a pre-title sequence bit before handing to Amy Williams who (judging by the whole 30 seconds I have seen of her) doesn't seem to be a bad presenter.

A side effect of one region opting is that the 'Press Green' icon for the promos going out on network appear over the opted out programme too. Not the end of the world though.
