But, in my opinion, that should be the norm; Olympics should feature but not lead unless extremely newsworthy.

Given the massive increases in ratings for all BBC ONE news programmes and NC over the last week I suspect you're just not in tune with the national mood. The Olympics is the main story.

'National Mood' and 'Newsworthy' are not necessarily synonymous.

If we have a Bank Holiday with the entire UK bathed in warm continuous sunshine, the 'national mood' is one of euphoria, so are you suggesting that should be the lead story on TV News ?

Up thread someone suggested the BBC website has comprehensive coverage of non Olympics news. Super, but what about the 25% of UK homes that have no domestic internet access ?.

Fact is Radio 4 are managing to keep the Olympics in appropriate proportion, why are they the only BBC domestic broadcast outlet to do so ?

Because the rest of the BBC is populist and targets a mainstream audience who want to see news from the Olympics as it is the biggest public event this country has ever hosted and aren't interested in Nick Clegg having a tantrum.

The News Channel should follow Radio 4's lead though. If you want the Olympics news, watch the news on BBC One. If you want the rest of the day's news, watch the News Channel.

News 24 however has the odd position of being the only TV on in many receptions, waiting rooms and other public / work places therefore some may not have the option to change to BBC1

Every pub, workplace, and reception I've been to in the last ten days, have had their TVs tuned to BBC 1, and I'm not surprised seeing as 25% of the screen on News 24 is covered in graphics and BREAKING NEWS banners.

Apart from the successful Mars landing, serious splits in the coalition over the elected Lords , homes flooded out in torrential rain, Syria, and a reasonably high profile Tory MP resigning.

Which lead the news.

a reasonably high profile Tory MP resigning .

You really ned to get a grip and remove yourself from the Tvforum/Twitter bubble if you think her resignation is headline news. An attention seeking MP famous for trolling left wingers on twitter Laughing

N.B. I didn't post that.

Its David Bond (I've just realised) who is the worst offender for reporting to camera while action happens behind him.

David Bond with his mesmerizing white fulsome teeth and handsome chops.

What a rotter.

I have to begrudgingly admire Dan Roan for his perfect timing on tonight's Six. Facing the camera he speaks about the dangers of the BMX course, whilst half a dozen or so riders crash on a corner behind him bang on cue.
