Rendez-Vous 98 is the best World Cup theme on any channel, ever. That's a fact.
If they were a true fan they wouldn't have used that awful Apollo Four Forty verison...

That sort of dance music was rife in 1998 to the Apollo 440 version was a great choice for the time, and still sounds amazing in my opinion. Not many songs used for football coverage get you pumped anymore, especially when you go down the bog standard Hollywood orchestral route that Sky always seems to opt for.

Because the original Jarre version is such a get-up-and-go foot tapper isn't it?!

I liked the way they integrated the sponsor into the opening titles seamlessly in 1998 (and 94), you don't tend to get that anymore. Presumably these days broadcasters have to make a clear distinction between sponsor & programme.

That's my video that someone nicked off the MHP Private parts and uploaded to youtube...

I agree, it was often a bit more creative than just slapping some random clip before the titles. I suppose it does help make it easier to repeat the show with a different sponsor further down the line.
The most recent examples I can think of are The Krypton Factor which worked the Sage logo into the titles, and ‘GAME Presents Rob Beckett’s Playing For Time’ on C4. Not sure how they were able to get away with it?

Nice big thread here with many examples:

Think the rule was changed in the late 1990s to make it more distinct as opposed to integrating things into title sequences. Of course in more recent years its gone to the other extreme particularly on those current Gala Bingo sponsorship bumpers for The Chase.
Krypton Factor 2009 didn't integrate as such, they just made it look as if it was part of the titles, same background, effects and it looked intact. There was IIRC a horrible "jump" as such between bumper and titles that I suppose served as the go between.

There were a few ITV shows that did that at the time, This Morning was one of them with an extended intro to the theme tune. As you say I assume there was some change in the ITC's rules that stopped it from happening.
