why is everything " apart form Saturdays" place on the hour or Half past?

it never used to be like this, you used to get programmes starting at any old time which meat there was some competition now it either or that. as every channel starts at the same time.

also back in the good old days, ITV/ bbc had programmes you know would be on at a certion part of the day,

like the south bank show was at 10.30pm much earlier than today

there much more high level TV on both side plus the down to earth show of today mixed in but high level was push further in the late nights

but there dump most thing all over the place..

the only thing I know for sure it when that news is on:

I think its because it so competitive these days and they have to start on the hour or half past.

Although I think all programmes in peak time on weekdays have always mainly been starting on the hour or half past. Daytime used to be a variety of different start times on ITV1 e.g. 1.50pm, 2.25pm etc. The BBC still do have programmes starting at different times during daytime e.g. Neighbours at 1.40pm and 5.35pm.
