I don't know about Julia Somerville, but the last I read Carol Barnes is working as a barrister.

Interesting.
It was such a shame they got rid of Carol and Julia presenting the ITV1 bulletins and (I think) replaced them with Kirsty Young.

Carol Barnes apparently left broadcasting in 2004 after her daughter died in a parachute accident. Last I saw her, she returned as one of the late night presenters (along with Angela Rippon) in 2003 for coverage of the outbreak of the Iraq War - at least I think she did.
